DJ insists Cadno should be at the farm
Cadno approaches as DJ is working in the farmyard;  “You’re determined to do this then?” he asks.   Cadno says she has no choice, as Elin Francis wants to prepare for the trial.
"That calf is due any hour now"
DJ emphasises, “We’re busy here – that calf is due any hour now!”   Cadno tells him that he will be all right now that they have the “machine”, but he protests that he has never used it on his own before.
"Do you need someone to hold your hand?"
“Do you need someone to hold your hand?” Cadno taunts him, “You can’t let a machine get the better of you.   It will all be over on Thursday, and then we can get back to normal.”
"Oh – hello, Gemma"
Sioned has a surprise phone call from Gemma, and is hesitant about saying anything;
"I'd like to see you"
“I’d like to see you,” says Gemma, “I’ve had the help you said I needed – if you think I should be punished for that, I’m sorry for wasting your time!”   Sioned is shocked when Gemma ends the call.
"I'll just get a telling-off"
At Elin Francis’ office, Cadno is not sure why she is there;  “All I have to do is turn up, plead guilty and get a telling-off from the judge.”
"You ought to bring some clothes"
Elin, however, says that they must be ready for anything, and that Cadno should take a bag of clothes to the court, just in case.   Cadno angrily replies, “You led me to believe that it would be all right, and now you’re telling me I could go to prison!”
The job has gone to Eifion's head
Angela is at home when Eifion pops in to collect his phone, and refuses her a cwtch, as he is on duty and there is a supervisor outside.
"What's your quota today, then?"
She asks, “What’s your quota today, then?” and warns him, “I don’t want people complaining about you!”
Elin advises Cadno that there is every possibility of a minimum sentence for an offence like this, but they have to be prepared, telling Cadno not to panic.
Cadno is apprehensive
“That’s easy for you to say!” replies Cadno, “I’m going to change my plea to not guilty, so I get a chance to fight it!”
"No, not a good move"
Elin advises that this would not be a good move, as they would question why she had changed her plea.   “Plead guilty and the court is likely to show mercy – trust the system!”
Gemma is pleased to see Sioned
Sioned arrives at the hospital, which is where she was treated several years ago;  Gemma is pleased to see her, and when told that she looks well, answers, “Well, it’s not my body that’s ill, is it?”
"It's weird to be back here"
Sioned admits that it is weird to be back there, but she does not have bad memories of the place;  “Nobody judged me, and I was getting better.   Why did you contact me?   Why not Ed, or Andrew?”
"You're the only one who understands"
Gemma explains that Sioned is the only one who understands, as she has been through it.
Jim and Ed are talking rugby when Eifion comes in for a coffee;
They make fun of Eifion . . .
Ed taunts him, “Dai is worried that Eifion’s lost his mojo since he’s had this job.”
Jim adds, “Being a traffic warden is not good for team spirit!”
. . . and cause Gwynfor some amusement
which amuses Gwynfor, sitting behind him.   “At least when you were a farmer, you got on with everyone, now you think you’re better than us, and you’re a pain!   You’ve become a jobsworth since putting on the uniform.”
Cadno is back, only to hear . . .
When Cadno gets back to the farm, DJ reports that the calf has come – and gone.
. . . that the calf has died
The cow is all right, but he could not save the calf.   Predictably, Cadno is angry, and demands, “Do you know how much that calf was worth?”
DJ tells her he is very much aware of that;  “If you had been here, that calf might be alive.   I phoned the hunt kennels to come and get it.   I hope your important meeting was worth it!”
Eifion gets his own back for the joking
Ed demands what Eifion is doing as he slips a parking ticket under the taxi’s wiper;  “I think that’s obvious!” Eifion replies, having booked the vehicle as it was slightly over the line.
"Better not tease him again!"
Jim warns Ed to think twice about teasing him again.
Eileen is chatting to Maldwyn
Eileen, who has been talking to Maldwyn, sees DJ heading for the Deri, and goes there, collecting Jim along the way.   Meanwhile, Eifion is in a quandary;
"Is there a problem?"
“Is there a problem?” asks his supervisor, and Eifion reveals that the red car in front of him is his partner’s.    He is told, “In this job, the law is the law!”
This will not go down well with Angela
so he starts issuing a ticket.
This is affecting Eileen's and Jim's money
Eileen goes to see DJ in the Deri;  “Marian said you lost a calf,” she says, and he tells her it was a Belgian Blue.
Jim is furious;  “You’re talking a thousand pounds!”   DJ explains that he could have done with another pair of hands, but Cadno was at her solicitor’s, and that she is worried about the case, not Penrhewl.
"Penrhewl is most important!"
Jim is adamant that the farm is more important that any court case.
"I wish you weren't at each other's throats!"
DJ tells Eileen, “I wish you and Cadno had thought of that before being at each other’s throats!”
Sioned and Gemma in the sunshine
Sitting on the grass in the hospital grounds, Sioned admits she enjoyed being there, as it was so peaceful.
"I have made giant strides"
“The doctors are pleased with my progress, and say I have made giant strides,” says Gemma, “There’s quite a way to go, but I’m ready to take the first steps into the outside world.”
"And you want me to support you"
“They need proof that you have support – and that’s why I’m here,” deduces Sioned.
Gemma continues, “I’m doing everything they tell me, and it’s only day release at first.   If that goes well, then I can build on it.   I’d understand if you refused, after all that’s happened, but I’m asking for the same chance that you had.”
The latest in farmyard fashion . . .
Cadno, wearing rather fetching leather apron, is sweeping the farmyard when Eileen arrives, and tells her she has heard about the calf.   Cadno insists that she does not want any help.
. . . the full-length leather apron
“DJ is very concerned about you,” replies Eileen, “I’m concerned that you can’t focus on the farm because of the court case.   I didn’t want it to come to this, but if the future of Penrhewl is under threat, we’re doing something terribly wrong!”
This is getting too much for Cadno . . .
Cadno is frightened of what will happen if she goes to jail, “To the farm, the children and me!   The solicitor warned me to pack some clothes.   It has all spiralled out of control – I can’t cope!   I’m sorry - please withdraw your statement.”
After an apology, Eileen relents
Eileen tells her, “All I wanted was an apology – there’s no need to worry any more.   We can focus on getting the farm back on track, agreed?”
"I've lost more than one calf like that"
Eifion is commiserating with DJ in the Deri about the calf, and tells him that after Thursday, Cadno will be a different person.
Then Angela comes in and addresses Eifion;
He faces the wrath of Angela . . .
“Are you going out of your way looking for trouble?   I’m not paying!”
. . . who puts the torn-up notice on the bar
and, so saying, she tears up the penalty notice, warning him, “Don’t rush home!”
"Was Angela a bit annoyed with you?"
DJ comments, “Is it me, or was Angela a bit annoyed with you?”
Sioned pleads with Ed . . .
On the sofa, Sioned pleads with Ed, “Please, she doesn’t have anyone else!”   He replies that she has Andrew, but no-one knows where he is, and enquires if Sioned asked her why she had his phone.   Also he is not happy that she had visited Gemma without telling him;
. . . but he will not agree
“Coming back here would be a step back for her.   She’s not coming, and that’s an end of the matter!”
"That was a dirty trick!"
Still in a foul mood, Ed addresses Eifion by the bar;  “That was a dirty trick earlier!”   DJ comments that Eifion is making new friends by the minute, and Ed continues, “There seems to be one rule for me and one for others!   I saw Angela rip up her ticket – if she can, so can I!”
"Angela's prettier than you!"
When Eifion answers that Angela is prettier than him, Ed snarls, “Stuff the lot of you!” and goes upstairs.
"Things should be getting back to normal"
Jim tells DJ that Eileen has gone to see Cadno and he hopes that things will get back to normal.
Ed moans to Sioned that those three downstairs are behaving like children.   She is not sympathetic;
"Going on about a parking ticket!"
“Listen to yourself - going on about a parking ticket, instead of showing concern for your niece, whose problems are much worse!”
Ed is surprised by Sioned’s U-turn where Gemma is concerned,
"Gemma reminded me of someone"
and she explains, “Today made me dwell on the past.   Gemma reminded me of someone who needed family support, and was lucky enough to have it.”
"Is he alive?"
Ed is not swayed;  “I don’t trust her!   Did she say anything about Andrew?   Where he is?   What he’s doing?   Is he alive?”   When Sioned insists that Gemma is trying her best, he adds, “I want to know what she’s done to my brother.”
"Well, talk to her!"
“So come with me when I fetch her from the hospital tomorrow, and talk to her,” Sioned suggests.
As the celebration starts . . .
At Penrhewl, DJ pours some wine for him and Cadno to celebrate, but Eileen comes in, looking very despondent;
. . . Eileen brings unwelcome news
“I’ve been too hasty,” she tells them.   “My solicitor tells me that if I withdraw the statement, I shall be in trouble with the police.   I don’t want to make matters worse for myself.
"You're going back on your word!"
“So you’re going back on your word!” says Cadno, and DJ calls the decision, “Terrible and really sly.”
"Look after number one, or do the right thing"
“You have a choice – look after number one, or do the right thing,” says Cadno, “Get out – I’ll see you in court!”
