"This could get out of hand"
As Sioned leaves to put her plan into action, Ed asks, “Are you sure you know what you’re doing?   This could get out of hand.”
Sioned replies, “If I can get those two in the same room, there’s hope!”   Gemma comes in and announces she is going to help Diane at APD,
"Diane just needs a helping hand"
and points out to Ed that it is not because Diane feels sorry for her, but that she needs a helping hand.
“You haven’t read the Western Post yet,” says Gemma, “You should have a look.”
Gemma's Story in the Western Post
He does so, and sees the page 3 article, “Gemma’s Story”.
Anita's washing line has snapped
Jim is reading the same article at APD when Anita comes in for a replacement washing line;
"You're not welcome at the service!"
she pointedly emphasises to Diane that she will not be welcome at Friday’s service at Bethania.   Anita remarks to Jim, “We were friends – before she scuppered my last chance to say goodbye to Meic!   I’ll never forgive her for that!”   Jim warns her that she is making a huge mistake.
Ffion, cleaning the flat
Ffion is cleaning the flat when she succumbs to temptation
Under-sink view of Ffion and her flask
and resorts to her emergency supply, kept in a stainless steel flask under the sink.   Then she prepares sandwiches for Gethin.
"You're always doing jobs for Garry"
At the garage, Gethin remarks that Siôn is always doing jobs for Garry;  “You’ll be washing cars next!” he says.
"She is suffering from stress"
Siôn enquires about Ffion, and is told that she is so stressed she could not get out of bed this morning.
However, at that moment she appears, bringing Gethin his lunch.
Siôn is pleased to see that she is feeling better, and asks if she has been prescribed any medication;
Ffion is in no mood for conversation . . .
Ffion quickly hurries away,
. . . and Siôn knows why
and Siôn is suspicious.
"Just say you need a nurse"
Sioned instructs Marian on her part in this plan;  “Just says you’re ill and need a nurse – there’s no need to mention ambulance or doctor, she just has to believe you’re ill.”
"Im ill, and I need a nurse!"
Marian obliges with, “Hello Angela, I’m ill and need a nurse!”
"Mam, Marian's in a lot of pain"
Then Sioned rings her mother;  while Marian moans and groans in the background,
"Listen, you can hear her moaning"
Sioned tells Eileen that Marian is in a lot of pain.
She is disappointed by the response that Eileen cannot come as she is waiting for a delivery;  “Surely Auntie Marian’s health is more important than a delivery!”
"She says call a doctor!"
protests Sioned, but is advised to call a doctor.
"Charming!"
“Charming!” says Marian.
Gethin catches her in the act
Gethin catches Ffion having a swig from the vacuum flask, but she denies it;  “No, I promised not to!”
"You must think I'm stupid!"
“You must think I’m stupid!” he says, “You promised last night, and you can’t even get to lunchtime!   Don’t you remember what we talked about last night?   I have a choice between you, drunk, or Daniel!”
"Well, it's about time you chose!"
Ffion grabs the flask from him and snarls, “Well it’s about time you chose!  I’m not going to change – I can’t – maybe I don’t want to change!   Who’s this Natalie to tell me what I can do?   I’m not ready to stop – I can’t think about anything else from morning until night!”
“Are you really choosing alcohol over me?” demands Gethin,
"You might as well pack your bags"
and she replies that she is choosing to let him go;  if he wants a relationship with Daniel, they cannot be together, and he might as well pack his bags.
"Mam has spoilt everything"
Sioned moans that her mother has spoilt everything, as Angela will be there shortly.   “You could be really ill, but no, she would rather wait for her delivery!”
They hear a car arriving, so Marian resumes her cries of anguish;
Jim is worried about Marian
however it is Jim, who has come in Eileen’s place.   Sioned reassures him that Marian is fine, and Jim rebukes Marian,
"You're pretending, Auntie Marian – that's terrible!"
“You’re pretending, Auntie Marian – that’s terrible!”   Sioned persuades him to phone Eileen on the pretext that Marian is asking for her.
"You're not making any attempt!"
Gethin, with his very small bag, tells Ffion that she is refusing to make any attempt,
Ffion has given up
but she argues, “If it wasn’t today, Id be drinking tomorrow, or the day after.”
He is at the end of his tether;  “I can’t do any more – I’ve tried,” he says, “What about Arwen?   She’ll be home in a couple of hours – if you drink the rest of that flask . . .”
"Stick to worrying about your own child!"
Ffion tells him, “Stick to worrying about your own child!   I’ll sort it out – I’ve caused you enough problems.”   Gethin sadly leaves, as she shouts, “Just go to Daniel – and don’t come back!”
Sioned announces, “Mam’s here – over to you Auntie Marian,” and she starts her cries of pain once more.
Eileen is most distraught
Eileen is very concerned and orders Jim to call an ambulance.
"Do you think that's necessary?"
“Do you think that’s necessary?” he asks, but then Angela rushes in.   There is some confusion about where her pain is actually located, and Angela deploys her stethoscope, while Eileen demands whether the ambulance has been called.
Sioned instructs Auntie Marian, “You can stop now,” and the moaning suddenly ceases.
Sioned calls a halt to the charade
Eileen and Angela are outraged when
"I'm fine!"
Marian smilingly informs them that she is fine.
Sioned explains that it was her idea;
Sioned explains her reasoning . . .
“I wanted to get you two back together, but you’re both so stubborn that I didn’t have much choice.   Mam has always got on better with you than with me.”
As Angela packs her bag, complaining that she does not have time for this, Sioned continues, “You’re so lucky to have the type of relationship you have with Mam – I’d do anything to have that closeness.   You’re risking it all over a silly argument – Mam was only trying to help Courtney.”
. . . but that does not stop the bickering
Eileen and Angela continue to bicker over whose fault it was, until Marian pronounces,
"Grow up, for heaven's sake!"
“Grow up, for heaven’s sake!”
Mark orders Lasagne and Chips from Gwen in the café;  Diane and Gemma come in, but on seeing Anita there, Diane wants to leave.
"Don't let Anita win"
Gemma assures her that she has done nothing wrong, and should not let Anita win..
"You should be ashamed of yourself!"
Then Gemma tells Anita that she should be ashamed of herself, and Anita replies, “I see you’ve got your claws back into Diane!”   Gemma points out that Diane thought the world of Meic too, and does not deserve this.
"You can't be serious about this"
Gemma goes to sit with Ed, who is still looking at the article; he  maintains that Gemma cannot be serious about what she says there.
"I feel better now"
“I feel better after letting it all out,” she tells him, “You’re concerned about what people think, and that is all that bothers you.”
"You're upsetting Courtney"
At Penrhewl, Jim loses his temper;  “It upsets Courtney to see her Mam and Gran hating each other!”
"I don't hate Angela"
Eileen insists that she does not hate Angela, and does not want to ruin the relationship they have.
"I may have overreacted a bit"
Angela in her turn, admits that she may have overreacted a bit.   “You can say that again!” comments Jim.
Colin is on babysitting duty again
Gethin returns to number 7, where Colin is again babysitting, and asks if he can move back for a few days.   Apparently, Iolo and Wiliam are “gallivanting” in London.   Colin is only too happy for him to be back, but is concerned about Gethin’s break-up with Ffion.   Gethin explains the reason as,
"No-one knows what goes on behind closed doors"
“You know what they say – no-one knows what goes on behind closed doors,” and Colin ponders on his own situation.
Ed admits that he does not know how to handle Gemma,
"I must take responsibility for myself"
but she is convinced that she is getting better, and asks him to stop watching her all the time.   She must take responsibility for herself;  Ed replies, “You mean – back off!”
"I expected to find a horse's head in my bed"
Mark goes to Anita’s, telling her, “I half expected to find a horse’s head in my bed!   Meic wouldn’t want to see you behave like this.”
Her response is, “Meic didn’t want to see me at all!”   When Mark asks if sleeping with Dai was worth it, she tells him,
"I'd do it again, to make Diane suffer!"
“Yes!   I’d do it again, to make Diane suffer!”
"You've made a huge mistake"
He leaves, saying, “You’ve changed, Anita!   You’ve also made a huge mistake!”
Ffion and Arwen visit Y Felin
Ffion and Arwen arrive at Y Felin, but Britt is out shopping;  Ffion asks Siôn, “Can you look after Arwen overnight . . . the rest of the week too?”   Siôn tells her it is obvious that she is drinking again, and she takes exception to this;
"All right, we'll go then!"
she is about to take Arwen away, when Siôn assures her that they will look after Arwen, “Until you get better.”
"Be a good girl for Mam, OK?"
She stoops down and with tears in her eyes tells Arwen, “Be a good girl for Mam, OK?   Mam loves you.”
Siôn is troubled
After kissing Arwen, she begs Siôn, “Look after her please,” and hurries away.
