25 September 2015

First thing in the morning . . .
When Gethin gets up,
. . . and Ffion cannot be roused from her stupor
he is surprised to find Ffion unconscious on the sofa;  he finds an empty vodka bottle, Arwen shouts, “Mami!”
Then Daniel arrives
and then the buzzer sounds.
"I'm supposed to be at school"
It is Daniel, who is supposed to be at school.
Ffion appears to be regaining consciousness
Gethin warns Ffion not to move until he and the children have gone.
Dai is not welcome any more
The atmosphere is tense in the shop flat;  Eileen refuses to have Dai there for another night, as his presence could affect the shop’s business.   Jim advises him, “You should make other plans until the dust settles.”
"Dai doesn't live here any more!"
Mark delivers a parcel for Dai to Bryntirion, and is told by Diane, “He doesn’t live here any more!   Anita slept with Dai to take revenge on me.   If only you hadn’t forced me to keep quiet about Meic!”
It all appears to be Mark's fault
Mark protests that they thought they were doing the right thing, but Diane tells him,
"I wouldn't be surprised if you're next!"
“Anita is determined to make me suffer – and she succeeded!   I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re next.”
"Sioned has been a big help"
Eileen sees Gemma outside the shop;  “Sioned has been a big help,” Gemma says, and Eileen comments that there is a first time for everything.
Relations are still rather frosty with Cadno
When Cadno brings apples from Penrhewl, she remarks that she is still going, despite Sioned’s antics, and turns down Eileen’s offer of going out for a drink.
"I don't know how you have the cheek to show your face!"
Eileen turns to see Anita passing the shop;  “I don’t know how you have the cheek to show your face!” she rages, “What would Meic say?   Not been dead a month, and you seduce your best friend’s husband!”   Anita replies that she will do her shopping elsewhere.
"You're pretty good at putting customers off!"
Jim comments that Eileen is pretty good at dissuading customers, let alone Dai.
Mark tells Gabriela the news
Mark goes home to Maes-y-Deri to tell Gabriela the latest news about Anita and Dai;  “Diane said it was revenge for not telling her about Meic, but Meic did not want her there.”
"I keep seeing Meic, in pain"
Gabriela reveals that she is unable to sleep, constantly seeing Meic in pain, but can hardly remember what he was like.
Mark looks for something
“Maybe I can help with that,” replies Mark, and rummages in the sideboard drawer.
"Yes, Natalie, he's safe with me"
In the street, Gethin is on the phone to Natalie, assuring her that Daniel is all right,
Ffion, out in her pyjamas
when they see Ffion, in pyjamas and slippers, heading out of Cysgod y Glyn.
She does not want to be stopped . . .
Gethin runs after and restrains her;
. . . but is led homeward again
he manages to manhandle her, much against her will, back to the flat.   This is witnessed by Anita.
Dai sees Anita
Dai sees Anita about to go into number 10, and wants a word with her.   “How could you do this to me?” he demands, “I can’t believe it happened – it’s not as if I fancy you – well, not enough to betray Diane and Meic.”
Anita tries to justify herself
Anita argues, “But you were looking for comfort, weren’t you?   I’m sorry I took advantage of that – is Diane angry?”
"I hate myself!"
“Angry?” roars Dai, “She hates me, everyone hates me and I hate myself!”   Anita gives him back Meic’s watch, and he continues, “Did I really take that off before . . ?   Meic must be turning in his grave to think I’m such a pig!   That’s what I am – an immoral pig!   I don’t deserve this watch, or to speak at the service!   How can I stand in the pulpit, talking about friendship – and he’s looking down, knowing exactly what I’ve done?”
"I'm going, and I don't know when I'll be back"
He tells Anita that he will not be there for the service anyway, as he is going to stay with Dic in Galway, and does not know when he will be back.   Anita is beginning to be concerned about the repercussions of her allegation, saying rather lamely, “I’m sorry things turned out like this.”
“What did you expect?” demands Dai, “I was drunk, and you knew exactly what you were doing!”   He hands back the watch and walks out.
Gemma brings flowers . . .
Gemma calls unexpected at Bryntirion, bringing Diane flowers, and apologises for her past behaviour.
. . . and explains her behaviour
“I was ill, I couldn’t think straight and should have asked for help sooner.   They say it’s depression – I’ve known there was something wrong for years – I was always after revenge!”
Diane tells Gemma her problems
“You should have a word with Anita!” replies Diane, and she explains about keeping the fact that Meic was dying from Anita.   “Now she thinks I was betraying her.”
Gethin has put Ffion to bed,
"Ffion smells odd!"
and Daniel remarks, “Ffion smells odd!”   Gethin instructs him that when his Mam comes to collect him, he is to say nothing about Ffion.   Daniel is hungry, so they go to the café, and Gethin tells him he can have anything he chooses.
Diane had a bout of depression
Diane recalls that she had a bout of depression years ago;  “It felt as if I was in a black pit, and didn’t know where to turn.   There was not much help available then, it was long before Dai and I were married.”   She begins to cry.
"Are you trying to wangle your way back in?"
At this moment Dai arrives, and is not happy to see Gemma there;  “How did you get in?   Are you trying to wangle your way back in?   Taking advantage of Diane when she’s vulnerable!”
"You don't live here any more!"
Diane asks, “What are you doing here?   You don’t live here any more!”   Dai insists they should talk, but she simply answers, “So you can tell more lies?   It’s too late, Dai, I don’t want any more excuses!”
"I'm going to stay with Dic"
Dai reveals he is going to stay with Dic, and Diane’s response is, “You’ll get a welcome from Dic – two dirty dogs together!   You’re only sorry you got caught!   Now get out of my sight!”
Dai leaves Bryntirion
He dejectedly picks up his bag and leaves.
Mark plays the film of Meic
Mark plays a film of Meic, who says, “I would prefer you to remember me as I am now, not how I’m going to be.   I don’t want any long faces.”
"Should I tell Anita about it?"
Mark wonders whether to tell Anita about the film, which she could play at the service, but admits that he is scared of Anita, who might want revenge.
"You don't have a wife she could sleep with!"
Gabriela asks, “How?   You don’t have a wife she could sleep with!”
As they turn back to the film, Meic finishes by saying, “I might see you on the other side – cheers!”
Cadno and Eileen seem to be on better terms
Cadno returns to the shop and apologises for her earlier unpleasantness, but she has been under a lot of strain.   “You did shoot at me, remember!” Eileen comments, but they agree to put it behind them, and have a drink together tomorrow night.
Ffion lurks by the magazines . . .
Meanwhile, Ffion has come into the shop, and although ostensibly looking at magazines,
. . . but glances towards this shelf
can be seen casting envious glances at the vodka on the shelf.   Madge comes in for some Penrhewl apples, which are displayed outside,
While Eileen's back is turned . . .
giving Ffion the opportunity to nip behind the counter and put two bottles in her bag.
. . . she helps herself and leaves the money
Leaving two ten pound notes on the counter, she hurriedly leaves.
Diane and Gemma pass the shop, and Diane blames Eileen for letting Dai stay there;
Dai appears to be "travelling light"
Dai is being given a lift to the station by Jim.
"Do you think I'm going to stop you?"
“Do you think I’m going to stop you?” demands Diane.
"I don't think this is what Meic had in mind"
As the car drives away, Diane muses, “I don’t think this is what Meic had in mind somehow.”
"What's this £20 on the counter?"
Eileen returns to the shop and finds £20 on the counter;
"Ah – that explains it!"
she is puzzled until she sees the empty space on the shelf, and then all becomes clear.
"Meic wouldn't want anyone to suffer"
Gabriela tells Anita, “Meic wouldn’t want anyone to suffer.   Diane did you a favour – the end was not easy.   I shall be going home after the memorial service.”
"Yes, we'll scatter Meic's ashes"
Anita mentions scattering the ashes in Anglesey, and they agree to do it as soon as possible.
"Don't you ever do that again!"
Natalie collects Daniel, warning him not to skip school again.   She asks Gethin if Ffion is getting the help that she needs, and he assures her that is where Ffion is at the moment.
She finds the evidence in the bin
Natalie is smarter than that, and notices the empty bottle in the bin;  “You haven’t changed at all!
"I mean it – her or Daniel!"
“I mean it – her or Daniel!   You can’t have both, not while she’s drinking!”
She has not had two whole bottles of vodka, surely?
They leave the flat, but only a few minutes later, Ffion comes up the stairs, unable to stand without holding on to the door frame;  Gethin does not know where to turn.
