27 November 2015

Vicky adjusts her tights
Mark returns from his round and tells Vicky, “The worst thing about this cold weather is that I can’t wear shorts!”   She replies that his customers are probably glad of that.   She has been speaking on the phone to Dewi, the man she saw last week, apparently an investment manager.
"Can you babysit for Nicky?"
“The agency isn’t taking bookings any more, so I’ve arranged to have lunch with him in Swansea,” Vicky informs him, “I need the money – can you babysit for Nicky, please?”   Mark is unsure that this is a good idea, and in any case, his car is booked in for a new exhaust at the garage, but he agrees to drive her to Swansea.
"Have a better night's sleep?"
Sheryl comes downstairs and Hywel asks if she had a better night’s sleep.     Sheryl is pleased that the effects of the surgery are now wearing off, and is going for a walk;
"I'm not sure 'normal' means anything"
she refuses Hywel’s offer to accompany her.   He however is glad that she is getting back to normal;  she informs him, “I’m not sure that ‘normal’ means anything to me any more.”
"I'm worried about you"
As Anita is vacuuming, Diane visits and receives a frosty reception.   “I’m worried about you,” says Diane, “You used Meic’s Fund for that stuff for the protest – that’s wrong, and it’s not like you!”
Anita suspects espionage
Anita maintains that the reason for Diane’s visit is to try and find out how many names are in the protest petition, but Diane tells her not to talk such nonsense.
"We've both made mistakes"
“You’ve changed completely – to think we’ve been friends for years.   We’ve both done some nasty things, out of character, I hope.   We both have to grow up and admit we’ve made mistakes, and both have to be willing to make amends.”
Anita does not want to know . . .
Anita’s response to this is to turn her back, so Diane reluctantly leaves;
. . . but then she regrets it
then Anita tears up one of the leaflets and sits with her head in her hands.
Dani is cajoled into looking after Nicky
Dani has a day off, and is still in her dressing gown when Vicky arrives with the carry-cot;  “I’m stuck for a babysitter,” she says, “I’ve got a date with Dewi – nothing to do with you or Diane.   I’ll be back in three or four hours!”   As she is about to leave, she sees Dani’s pink jacket;
"I like this jacket – can I borrow it?"
“Hey, I like this jacket – can I borrow it?   It matches this dress!”   Before Dani can object, Vicky has disappeared,
Dani appears to have been lumbered
leaving her ‘holding the baby’.
Gwynfor collects a couple of pints
At the bar in the Deri, Debbie predicts that when people find out, that will be the end of the Fund.
"Arty-farty paintings!"
Dai comments, “Good – it’s run by a do-gooder to hang arty-farty paintings in the units.   This is Cwmderi, not the Tate Modern!”
"Gunfight at the OK Corral!"
Seeing Anita coming through the door, Britt warns, “Gunfight at the OK Corral!”
Anita makes an apology
To everyone’s surprise, Anita confesses to the others that she should not have used Meic’s Fund for protest leaflets;
"I did something very stupid"
“I’m very sorry – I did something very stupid.   Dai is gratified to hear this apology, and suggests they put out the bunting.
Mark delivers the escort to the hotel . . .
As Mark’s car pulls up outside a posh hotel, he asks Vicky, “Are you sure this is a good idea?   What if he wants you to stay again?”
. . . and she looks the part
Vicky insists that she regards it as a business lunch, and that she may phone him later to pick her up.
"You're gorgeous, aren't you?"
As Dani is admiring the baby, Sheryl arrives there;  her real reason was to check on the running of the salon,
Sheryl catches a glimpse of the baby . . .
but as soon as she see the carry-cot, that is forgotten.   “Aren’t you cute?” she says to Nicky, then turns to Dani;
. . . and she cannot resist
“I know what you’re thinking, but I’m all right.   Can I hold him for a minute?
"Ooh, you're perfect!"
Ooh, you’re perfect!”
Nicky dribbles contentedly
as Nicky smiles and dribbles.
Diane wants them to talk to each other . . .
Diane approaches Anita with a drink;  “I’d like it if we went back to talking to each other, sharing thoughts and secrets.”
. . . and Anita agrees
Anita agrees that she wants that too.
"We haven't got Jim's petition!"
Then Debbie arrives, impatient to get to the council meeting, and worrying that they have not been given Jim’s petition.
He has visited the last few houses in Maes-y-Deri
As Diane orders Dai to phone him, he walks in, proudly announcing that he has been to the last few houses in Maes-y-Deri.   Siôn has the petition for the protesters, and is ready to go to present it to the meeting,
"I've had enough politics"
but Anita will not go with him, as she says she has had enough politics for one day.
Debbie promises him, “Your side is going to get hammered!”
"I got cold feet"
Mark is surprised to be phoned by Vicky so soon, and Vicky explains when he collects her, “I got cold feet – I just ate my lunch and got paid.   Dewi’s absolutely charming, but he’s way out of my league.   I like to think I’m in control, and can draw the line when need be.
"Can you take me home, please?"
Can you take me home, please?”
"I had a cwtch with Nicky"
Back at Llwyncelyn, Sheryl reports to Hywel that she had a cwtch with baby Nicky;  “I thought I’d break down in tears, but I didn’t go to pieces.”   Hywel suspects he would not have been so controlled.
"We never say his name any more"
Hywel says, “He’s the same age as Meilyr.   We never say his name any more;  we have to talk about him.   I’m grieving as much as you – we’re both suffering!”   Sheryl walks away.
"148 signatures!"
Siôn returns to the Deri after handing in the petition, he seems proud of the 148 signatures it contained.
"339!   Sweeping victory!"
Jim finds it impossible to resist trumpeting the total of the supporters’ petition – “339 – all legit!   Sweeping victory!”
"The debate never happened!"
Very soon Diane and Debbie also come back, advising, “The debate never happened – just when we came to the item on the agenda, Larry Gee phoned to say he was going to build on one of the other sites.   He is not coming to Cwmderi!”
Siôn does not look triumphant
Dai is perplexed when Siôn shows no signs of celebration that the housing will not happen.
"I would only let him down in the end"
Mark arrives home with Vicky;  she tells him, “He’s a nice man with plenty of money, but maybe he likes me too much.   I would only let him down in the end when he got to know me better, and he’d be so disappointed.
"We're not on the same planet!"
As she goes to put on the kettle, she continues, “He and I are not on the same planet – he’s so intelligent!   He talked about tapestries in the Brangwyn Hall, The House of Lords and an art museum in Belgium, even showing me photos on his mobile!   I was like a nodding dog!
"I didn't have a clue!"
I didn’t have a clue what he was wittering on about.   He doesn’t know who I am a single mum.   He’s bright, but not normal.”
"I'm happy with Nicky, you and Mam"
Her conclusion is, “I’m happy with Nicky, you and Mam, and don’t want to risk it all.”
"I'm glasd to see the back of these houses!"
Diane admits to Anita that she is glad to see the back of this housing business.   Anita agrees, “And we’re talking again!”   They will now talk about everyday things, like Christmas.   Diane suggests that she come over tonight for a drink, and they can put the world to rights, just like they used to.
Britt taunts Siôn that he should be grinning like a cheshire cat, as he has won.
"Money and profit come first!"
“No,” he replies, “Your petition had the most names.   This shows what people’s priorities are – money and profit come first!”
"You're a right laugh when you're celebrating!"
Dai comments, “You should win more often, Siôn!   You’re a right laugh when you’re celebrating!”
Vicky now has her own jacket
Vicky goes to return the jacket and collect Nicky;  Dani tells her that Sheryl called and made a fuss of him.   “Perhaps it may have helped her.”
Vicky pays her for babysitting;
"There's big money in this game!"
“I got paid £100 just for sitting there, smiling, eating tiger prawns and drinking Prosecco.   There’s big money in this game!   If we don’t take the money, someone else will jump at the chance – and we miss out!”
Dani ponders on her words
As she leaves, Dani looks thoughtful.
Hywel suggests moving back in with Sheryl
“Seeing as you’re sleeping better,” begins Hywel, Would you mind if I moved back in with you?”
"It's more comfortable on my own!"
Sheryl, however, is emphatic that she would prefer them to have their own rooms.   “What’s the point of sharing a bed when there’s a spare room?   It’s more comfortable on my own!”
Hywel insists that they have to work things out together, but she answers, “I don’t know if I can.
"My little baby's dead!"
Every time I look at you, I see Meilyr!   You’re there, right in front of me – and my little baby’s dead!”
Again she turns her back on Hywel
She turns from him and walks into the hallway.
