Things are not very rosy

At the breakfast table, the atmosphere between Dani and Garry is strained, to say the least;  “I can’t go on like this,” says Garry, “I’ve been stressed at the garage, and wanted to talk to you when I got home last night.”

"All week you've been angry and rude"

Dani replies that she wanted an early night, but adds, “I don’t know why you had to sleep on the sofa!   All week you’ve been angry, rude and only care about yourself.”

He pleads, “I said sorry!   Can we be friends again?   Things are hard enough without us arguing!” but when she will not listen, he gives up and goes to the garage.

"What have I done now?"

Seeing Diane looking preoccupied at their breakfast table, Dai demands, “Right, out with it!   What have I done now?   What has upset you?   

"Like a dinghy in a storm!"

“It was like sleeping in a dinghy in a storm last night!   Up and down, tossing and turning.”

Diane admits she is worried about Anita, but Dai comments, “I can sympathise with Meic, doing what he did.”   When Diane is concerned that he might do the same to her, 

"Too many armadillos!"

he reassures her, “Patagonia has never appealed to me – too many armadillos!   We made a vow to be together, come what may.”

He then enquires if anything has happened to Anita lately, or if there is any news about Meic;  

"Do you think he's still . . .?"

“It’s odd that nobody has heard anything – do you think he is still . . .?”   Diane rebukes him for all his questions, saying that Anita is just feeling low, and he describes Diane as a loyal friend to Anita.

"You haven't finished my van!"

At the garage, Garry is answering a phone call when Iolo comes in to collect his van.   He is angry when told that it is not ready and needs attention to the gearbox;  “It should be ready at lunchtime, hopefully,” Garry tells him, but this does not satisfy Iolo, who has an urgent job in Llanarthur to deal with.   

"Tough!"

“Tough,” Garry tells him, “I can do the impossible now, but miracles take longer!”

Dani is waiting for Garry to ring

Eileen is having her hair done at the salon, while Dani continually looks at her phone;  “That won’t make it ring,” warns Sheryl.

Dani tells them, “I texted Garry ages ago, but haven’t had a text back – we fell out this morning.”   

"He obviously thinks the word of you"

Eileen advises her not to fret, as Garry obviously thinks the world of her.

Gwyneth comes in to tell Dani that Gwern has a cough;  she has not been able to contact Garry, and asks whether she should phone the doctor.   

"Oh, this is the pram I've heard so much about"

Then she spies the new pram;  “I’ve heard a lot about this – only the best for you, Sheryl!” she laughs.

Eileen tells Dani that Garry must be busy, as no-one can contact him, and urges her to go to the garage and see him, but Sheryl’s conflicting advice is, 

"Let him stew a bit longer"

“Let him stew a bit longer.   We have to keep an eye on these men – they learn how to take advantage!”

Siôn's latest promotional offer

Siôn is writing on the blackboard about free snacks tonight 

"Dad, can I borrow your car?"

when Iolo asks to borrow his car to go to Llanarthur and repair Mrs Morgan’s boiler.   He also asks if Siôn can pick up his van at lunchtime.

Another call from Gabriella 

Mark is watching television when Gabriella phones again, asking if he has had any luck with Anita.   He replies, “Yes, I think that we’ve . . . I’ve . . . she’s reconsidering.”   

"The end is near"

Gabriella reports that Meic is getting weaker with all the worry, adding that the end is near, and she wants him to be at peace.   

Mark tries to sound reassuring

Mark reassures her that Anita is not coming, but is not convinced himself.

Garry takes the wheel off . . .

Garry removes the nearside front wheel of the van, and slides underneath on a car creeper to remove the gearbox;  

. . . gets underneath and loosens the gearbox

he cannot free one of the bolts with a spanner, then his mobile phone rings.   “I’ve only got one pair of hands,” he mutters, 

"I've only got one pair of hands!"

then tries to free the bolt with a socket.

He is suddenly trapped under the gearbox . . .

The gearbox suddenly becomes free, and lands on his chest, crushing him;  as he struggles vainly to move it, 

. . . and listens to Dani's voice

the landline rings.   He gasps for breath as he hears Dani speaking to the answerphone;  

It is hard to breathe . . .

“OK, you’re not answering your mobile, so I had to phone this line.   Garry, I don’t think I can do this any more!   I love you, but I don’t think I can live with a man who tells me lies!”   

. . . and the phone is out of reach

As he desperately tries, but fails, to reach the phone, 

Is this the end for Garry?

his eyes close.

Eileen leaves the salon, asking Sheryl how much the pram cost, and when Sheryl whispers in her ear, she is amazed.   “Hywel must be made of money!   Have you worked out how to fold it yet?”   Sheryl says that Hywel has now learned to do it very quickly.

"That pram has been very useful already!"

Eileen remarks that, personally, she would have gone for something more useful, but Sheryl answers cryptically, “Oh, that pram has been very useful already!” which Eileen finds puzzling.

Then Eileen again recommends that Dani go over to the garage;  “You’ll scare the customers, looking that miserable!   Compromise is the basis of a good marriage,” she insists.   

"I don't know what's going on with him, Sher"

Dani tells Sheryl, “I haven’t a clue what’s going on with him,” and Sheryl reminds her that Garry is a man who likes his secrets, and that is how he keeps control of things.   

She tells Sheryl about the scam

Dani is sure he is not having an affair, but confides to Sheryl, “A while ago I found out that Sioned was helping Garry with some scam, and when I found out, I was jealous.   So I tried to help him, so I felt close to him, but it went wrong.   I said I wouldn’t help him again, and he said he would give up too.” 

"You think he's got something going on again?"

Sheryl asks, “You think he’s got something going on again?” and Dani regards his lying to her as being as bad as having an affair.

“I have to show him it’s wrong – I don’t want us to have secrets – we’re married!   I love him so much – I just want things back as they were.   

"Maybe I should go and see him"

“Maybe I should go and see him.”   Sheryl makes her a cup of coffee while she makes up her mind.

Garry is in a life-threatening situation

In the garage, the radio is playing, and Garry is lying motionless under the van.

Mark updates Diane

In the Deri, Mark tells Diane of the latest phone call from Gabriella about Meic, 

"That Dai is off again!"

then they are joined by Dai, who is moaning about that idiot, Jim, ordering a whole box of fencing pliers when he only wanted one pair.

"Just a mouthful"

Dai goes to the bar where he enquires about the free snacks, and on being told by Siôn they are things like vol-au-vents and small pies – “Just a mouthful!” Dai says that it depends on the size of one’s mouth.

"I'm a peanuts and pork scratchings sort of bloke!"

“I’m a peanuts and pork scratchings sort of bloke,” he tells Siôn, who remarks to Ows that sometimes he does not know why he bothers, and then leaves to fetch Iolo’s van.

Gwyneth is much happier now

Outside he meets Gwyneth, who is much happier now that the truth about Gemma is public knowledge.   “I still feel sorry for her – I know what it’s like to be lost and lonely like her,” she says, adding, 

"God makes sure the truth comes to light"

“Maybe you’re right, Siôn, that God makes sure the truth comes to light in the end.”

"Garry!"

This troubles Siôn’s conscience, and he hurries off to the garage, where at first he cannot find Garry.   

Siôn sees his feet . . .

Seeing his feet protruding from under the van, 

. . . and discovers what has happened

Siôn walks around and finds that Garry is lying motionless.   

He dials . . . but then has second thoughts

Siôn dials 999 on his phone, but hesitates before pressing the “Call” button, then turns off the phone.

"Garry's had an accident!"

As he stands up, Dani appears, and Siôn tells her, “Garry’s had an accident!”   

"Ambulance, to Moduron Monk, Cwmderi!"

He then does call an ambulance, 

Dani is heart-broken . . .

as Dani looks, panic-stricken 

. . . to see her husband there

at the inert figure under the van.   “Garry, can you hear me?” she shouts, 

"Siôn, he's dead!"

then turns and says, “Siôn, he’s dead!”

Mark brings flowers for Anita

Mark arrives with flowers at Anita’s, on the pretext of checking how she is;  he sits down rather hesitantly and asks, 

"Have you heard anything from Meic?"

“Have you heard anything  about Meic?”   Anita replies that she has not, and is suspicious;

"Has Meic been in touch with you?"

she enquires if Mark has been contacted by Meic.   

"If he had, I would have told you"

“No,” Mark assures her, “If he had, I would tell you straightaway,” and leaves as soon as he can.

"We should do something"

Angela has been summoned to the café by Sioned, who asks her, “Shouldn’t we do something about this nonsense between Mam and Cadno?”

Angela does not want to get involved

Angela wants to keep her nose out, saying, “I’ve only just sorted Eifion out – and he says Cadno has lost the plot!”

Sioned reminds her that if Cadno were to get a prison sentence, it would affect all of them;  “With you being busy and Eifion having a job, looking after the boys would be difficult!”   Angela agrees to have a word with Eileen.

Ed praises Sioned's peace-keeping efforts

Ed jokes with Sioned that she should be working for the UN, then Garry comes in, wanting a cheese and ham sandwich, as he has been up since five and has had no breakfast.   When Ed goes to prepare it, Garry sits opposite Sioned.

Be careful that Maldwyn does not hear

“I’m disappointed in you – I didn’t think you were a snitch!   You’re clever, that’s why we’re a good partnership – so use that brain of yours to decide whose side you’re on!”

Ed does not like them appearing so cosy

Ed is disturbed to see them talking when he asks if Garry wants onions;  Garry ominously replies, while looking at Sioned, “No thanks, they leave a bad taste in the mouth.”

"You've got a tough job"

Diane is gardening when Mark goes to see her;  when she hears about Gabriella’s call, she tells him, “You’ve got a tough job ahead of you if you can’t tell Anita that Gabriella phoned, or admit to her you know about her plans.”

Mark says that is why he needs Diane’s help, but she is reluctant to get involved, arguing that if Meic wanted her help, he would have phoned her.   

Diane has her own opinion of what Meic did

“Anyway, I have my own opinion of what Meic has done – it’s not easy on poor Anita!” she comments.

Mark tries to persuade Diane to help

Mark implores her, “Imagine if she goes out there and they have a big row – she’d suffer a lot more then.   What if he dies before she gets there?   It will be less painful in the long run – you don’t want Anita to suffer more.   The first thing is to make her admit she is going there, and then persuade her not to!”

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

Outside the salon door, Sheryl tells Hywel, “Beautiful, isn’t it?”   

"That will never go up to the flat!"

Jim, who is passing by reckons it cost a pretty penny, and that it will never go up to the flat.   Sheryl proudly points out, “It folds up,” and tries to find the correct button to initiate the process.

First Hywel tries to operate the folding mechanism . . .

“The woman in the shop did it in seconds,” remarks Sheryl, and Hywel bends down to see what the problem is;  

. . . then Jim lends a hand

then Jim has a go, without success, suggesting that it needs a bit of oil.   Sheryl is by now tired of looking silly, and takes the pram and Hywel into the salon.

Inside, she complains, “They’re only jealous!”   

"You could change it for an easier one"

Hywel reminds her that she did insist on buying it, and it can be changed for a less awkward one.   

"You promised me the best!"

“You promised me the best,” she goes on, “And this is the best by far.   It will have to stay in the salon – I’m not carting it up and down stairs like a yo-yo!”   Hywel thinks it might be a good idea to get the instruction book from the car.

Dani knows she is up to something

Dani tells her, “That’s too awkward to get upstairs – you know it and I know it – so what are you doing?”   Sheryl reveals that she has a plan, then asks Dani what is wrong with her.    

"Garry's been lying to me!"

“Garry has been lying to me – he said he was at the garage all night, and when I went over there, it was locked up!” reports Dani.

"I was just passing"

Eileen is cooking Tomato and Red Pepper Soup when Angela calls, saying that she was just passing.    Eileen says, “That’s odd – Sioned was just happened to be passing yesterday.   I bet you’re here for the same reason!”

"Your mother's being stubborn!"

Jim comments from the armchair, “There’s no point – your mother’s being stubborn!”   When told there is a possibility of a prison sentence, 

"No court would jail the mother of two young children"

Eileen insists that no court in the land would jail the mother of two young children.

"I'm going to find out why!"

“She came here when she needed money to keep Penrhewl – now she is treating us as if she owns the place.”   After Angela has given up and left, Eileen tells Jim, “For some reason, Sioned and Angela want me to withdraw the accusation – I’m going to find out why!”

In the garden at Bryntirion

Diane invites Anita for drinks in her garden, and suggests that what they both need is a holiday – a fortnight in the sun, possibly Spain or Italy.   

Anita has plenty of excuses not to go on hioliday

When Anita makes excuses about not wanting to go, 

"Oh, I was looking forward to it"

Diane feigns disappointment, at which point Anita admits that actually she is going to book tickets to Patagonia next week, as soon as she has transferred the money.

Diane enquires, “Has Meic asked you to come?   Is he missing you?”   Anita answers that he has not asked, and this is entirely her decision to go.

Hywel still has not folded the pram

In the salon, Hywel is still struggling with the pram while Sheryl takes it easy;  Angela comes in, the door collides with the pram and she hurts her leg.   “What a stupid place to put a pram!” she exclaims.

Sheryl pretends to be uptight

Sheryl fusses about filling in the accident book and health and safety;  she also considers that Angela should go to hospital.   Hywel retreats to CwmFM, and Angela asks for a trim and blowdry before the salon closes.

"I'm only here for a quick shower"

Dani is waiting in the flat when Garry comes in, but he insists he is only there for a quick shower before going to Swansea to collect car parts.   

"What are you doing?"

“Are the car parts people open at night, then?” demands Dani, “Something’s going on – I want to know where you are and what you’re doing!   

"You weren't at the garage!"

“I called at the garage on Tuesday, and you weren’t there!   Car parts again?”

Garry asks if she is accusing him of something, warns her not to wait up, and leaves, without having his shower.  

"I can't stand it!"

Anita is becoming agitated;  “I can’t stand it, sitting here and pretending that life goes on as normal, while Meic is on the other side of the world!”   Diane asks if it would not make more sense to go to Canada with Darren, 

"Meic didn't want you there"

and reminds her that Meic made it clear he did not want her there when he died.   If he were to change his mind he could phone or e-mail.

“Have you asked if he wants you out there?   You haven’t asked because you’re afraid of what he will say,” says Diane.   

It is all getting too much for Anita

As Anita cries, she adds, “I can’t imagine how you’re coping, but you have to cope.”

Sheryl is still going on about the 'accident'

Sheryl is in the Deri, still panicking about Angela’s injury.   When Siôn enquires whether it could be kept out of the way, Jim sarcastically replies, “It folds up nice and small, doesn’t it, Eileen?” but Eileen is not listening.

"The flat is the problem"

Sheryl, now totally in control of the situation, explains to Hywel, “I’ve made a decision – the pram is not the problem – the flat is the problem!   We can’t carry it up and down the stairs, or keep it in the salon.   

Hywel cannot believe what he is hearing

“The baby, pram and I need a bigger place – that’s why you are going to do all you can to ensure we move to Llwyncelyn!”

Hywel jokes that her hormones are all over the place, but Sheryl is deadly serious:  

"Nothing wrong with my hormones!"

“There’s nothing wrong with my hormones – 

"You'll have more to worry about than a folding pram"

“Just sort it, or you’ll have more to worry about than a folding pram!”

"What's this about a rent rise?"

Britt tells Siôn that Sioned mentioned the rent increase to her, and Siôn replies that he was thinking about the debt.   “How much did you have in mind?   £1,000 a week?” she asks, “I told you not to deal with Garry.   You should have told Megan the truth when you had the chance.   You created this mess and you have to clear it up.”

Ed tells Sioned there is no point in talking to Jim about the Cadno business, as he is in Eileen’s pocket.   

"Just like I'm in Garry's pocket?"

“Just like I’m in Garry’s pocket?” she replies bitterly, “I regret getting involved with him!”

"There are a few lives that would be easier without him!"

Ed prophetically states, “There are a few lives round here that would be easier without him!”
