| Hywel's attention is elsewhere |
Hywel has other things on his mind. Colin’s slogan is, “Vote for me – I’ll guarantee – a more lavish parish!” and tells Debbie that Diane has defected to his side. Then he announces, “On behalf of all villagers, I wish well to Sheryl Hughes – I hope you’re listening!”

| The radio is on in the hospital |
and indeed she is, in her hospital bed.
Hywel reveals to Debbie that the operation went well, and now Sheryl needs to rest. Debbie rather cheekily asks, “Has she forgiven you yet?”
![]() |
| "It's hard to rest when Hywel Llywelyn is in your life!" |
Hywel attempts to phone Sheryl, but when she sees who is calling, she heeds the nurse’s advice to get some rest. “It’s hard to rest when Hywel Llywelyn is in your life!” she tells him, in English.

| Colin knows how Sheryl is feeling |
Back in the studio, as they leave, Colin tells Debbie he knows how Sheryl is feeling, remembering when Gaynor had an affair and also when Anita went back to Meic.

| "It's nice to have a young woman around" |
As Diane has a manicure in the salon, she tells Dani that things are not rosy between her and Dai, yet again. “It’s nice to have a young woman around to talk to, like I did to Emma years ago.” Dani warns her not to let Gemma get the wrong idea;
![]() |
| "Remember what she did to her mother!" |
“You don’t want her seeing you as a mother – remember what she did to her mother!” Diane insists that Gemma cannot move on when people rake up the past.
![]() |
| Debbie is in belligerent mood |
Then Debbie marches in, demanding why Diane has changed her allegiance to Colin. Diane replies that he can better represent the community, but Debbie is adamant, “I’ll make sure I win, even without you! I’ll show you what girl power is!”

| Siôn has worked out a repayment plan |
Siôn meets Garry outside the shop, and tells him he has been working on a plan to pay the money back. As Colin lets him into the shop, after doing some electioneering,

| "I'll call at Y Felin" |
Garry replies, “I’ll call at Y Felin to discuss . . . that other matter.”
![]() |
| Debbie envisages Gwyneth as campaign manager |
Debbie goes to visit Gwyneth; “I’m looking for a campaign manager – Diane has betrayed me. I need someone to pull a stunt to win the election.” She also mentions that Diane is treating Gemma like a daughter.
![]() |
| "You don't stand a chance!" |
Gwyneth’s reaction is blunt; “There’s no point asking me – you don’t stand a chance!” and Debbie marches out.
Dani returns to the flat with Iolo, to fix a dripping tap,
![]() |
| Dani is not complimentary about Garry's abilities |
and is surprised to find Garry there. She tells Iolo, “There would be no water left in the reservoirs if I waited for Garry to do it.” Garry leaves, carrying a bag, and when Dani asks him why he is there, he cryptically replies, “Every relationship has to have a bit of mystery!”
![]() |
| "Tell Auntie Dani all about it" |
Iolo bewails the fact that he is not meant to find anyone, so Dani sits down and tries to reassure him; “What happened with you and Wiliam,” she enquires.

| Hywel approaches Sheryl's room |
Hywel visits the hospital, and after talking to a nurse, goes into Sheryl’s room. She tells him,
![]() |
| "You've broken my heart – literally!" |
“It’s too late, Hywel, you’ve broken my heart - literally! Before you start consoling yourself, the valve has only been temporarily repaired; there will be another operation after the baby is born.”
![]() |
| Hywel is, "So sorry!" |
Hywel starts apologising profusely, but Sheryl answers, “What are you sorry for – sleeping with your ex-wife, or that I found out?”
He assures her, “I’m sorry for putting you both through this – I was scared I was going to lose you both. It made me realise that you are all that concerns me now.”
![]() |
| Then he comes up with a surprise . . . |
As he sits down by the bed, he continues, “That’s why I want to ask you – will you marry me?”
![]() |
| . . . and produces a ring |

| A very rare antiquarian book . . . |
When Garry visits Siôn at home, he is not interested in Siôn’s plan to repay £420 per month for three years, but instead gives him “a gift”, a copy of “Hanes y Cymry Cynnar” (Early History of the Welsh). “Where did you get that? They’re very rare,” says Siôn.
“You won’t get one like this anywhere else,” Garry informs him, “Go on, open it.”
![]() |
| . . . but not quite what it appears |
Siôn is dismayed to see that the book is hollowed out inside, and contains a gun. “I can’t think of anyone better to look after it for me,” Garry tells him.
![]() |
| "I know it's rather bad timing" |
Hywel admits that he knows it is bad timing, and Sheryl agrees; “You’ve just slept with your wife!” When he excuses himself by pointing out that she deliberately became pregnant, she continues,
![]() |
| "That's the last thing I need!" |
“You enjoy excitement and enjoy taking risks – that’s the last thing I need.” The bleeping of the heartrate monitor increases in frequency.
![]() |
| "It will all be different when the baby comes" |
Hywel insists that things will be different when the baby arrives, but Sheryl concludes, “I’ll never be enough for you – no woman will be enough for you! It will be worse next time you cheat – your word means nothing! I want you to move out!”
![]() |
| Whoops – getting to dangerous levels |
As Dani arrives, and Hywel pleads for another chance, the monitor reaches 181
![]() |
| "Get out, Hywel – it's over!" |
and a nurse rushes in to administer oxygen; Sheryl gasps, “Get out, Hywel – it’s over!”
![]() |
| "One favour for another" |
Garry looks at Siôn, who pushes the gun away; “I like to think I’m helping the family, one favour for another,” says Garry, “You had money for the chapel, now you can keep this for me.”
![]() |
| "Every penny, before the end of the day!" |
When Siôn refuses, Garry adopts a more confrontational tone; “Right, so pay back the money you owe me, every penny, before the end of the day!
![]() |
| "Your fingerprints are all over it" |
“You don’t have any choice – your fingerprints are all over the gun.” He replaces the gun in the imitation book,

| "But where can I hide it?" |
as Siôn wonders where to hide it.
![]() |
| "There is one obvious place" |
“Not at home or at the Deri,” muses Siôn, but Garry suggests there is one obvious place.
![]() |

![]() |
| Hywel is taking no notice |
In the café, Debbie is trying to get some electioneering ideas from Hywel, but he tells her that this is not a good time.
![]() |
| "Stop this self-pity!" |
Debbie is not sympathetic; “Stop this self-pity! You’re a sly dog – always have been, but that’s never stopped the women chasing you. You’ll be all right.”
![]() |
| Gemma makes a useful suggestion |
Outside the shop, Colin is talking tactics with Diane and Gemma, who suggests providing transport for the voters at Maesglas, and she volunteers to knock on doors there, to see who is interested. As Gemma goes, but lingers within earshot, she hears Diane say, “She just needs a lot of attention – she’ll do anything to help.”
![]() |
| "Like to eavesdrop, don't you?" |
Gwyneth comes across the road and startles Gemma as she asks, “Like to eavesdrop on private conversations, don’t you?” Gemma immediately shouts, “Ow! You’re hurting me!” in order to attract the attention of Diane and Colin,
![]() |
| "I never touched your arm!" |
and tells them that Gwyneth grabbed her arm.
Despite Gwyneth’s denials, they take Gemma’s side; Colin tells her, “Go home and leave people alone!”
![]() |
| Gemma is suspiciously conciliatory . . . |
As Gemma heads off to Maesglas, she approaches Gwyneth and says, “Diane is helping me see things more clearly and make sense of it all, so please leave us alone. I don’t want to quarrel, or for there to be any more ill-feeling between us.”
![]() |
| . . . and Gwyneth wonders what is going on |
As she walks away, Gwyneth looks at her in disbelief.
![]() |
| "Make sure my organs are donated" |
At the hospital Sheryl asks Dani to make sure her organs are donated if anything should happen to her.
![]() |
| "What if he goes back to Gaynor?" |
“I can’t believe he’s done this to me. What if he goes back to Gaynor, and I’m still carrying his child?”
She tells Dani that she wants, “The Hywel who wants me and no-one else,” but Dani doubts he is capable of that. Sheryl begs Dani to keep an eye on Hywel while she is in hospital for the next week.
![]() |
| "I need to know what's going on" |
“I need to know what’s going on, to have peace of mind. I’d do the same for you!”
![]() |
| "I'm going to regret this" |
Dani agrees, but is sure she will regret the decision.
Siôn carries a bag toward the chapel, and sees Debbie looking up at the café sign;
![]() |
| "I'll make him proud of me!" |
“I’ll make him proud of me,” she says.
![]() |
| "No, Colin, I don't need any help" |
Then he continues past Colin, who offers to help when he says he is “doing some work” at Bethania.
![]() |

Garry watches as Siôn goes into the chapel. When Siôn passes the open Bible inside, he mutters,
![]() |
| "Forgive me, Lord!" |

![]() |
| He breaks down in tears |
After closing the door, he cries.
