Ffion finds Gethin in the Deri and asks if he will babysit tonight, as she wants to go to the cinema with some of the teachers, but he tells her he has to see Garry, about attracting new customers. Ffion says she will have to do housework instead.

Dai comes in, laden with bags of Gemma’s stuff; he tells Britt, “I’ve no idea how she is, and I don’t care!” Britt asks him how Diane is coping, and he replies,

| Diane tells them about Gemma . . . |
Diane tells Dani and Garry that Gemma is having treatment in a Special Unit; Garry comments, “Let’s hope she doesn’t come back any time soon!” Diane wishes that she could have done more to help Gemma,

then reveals that Gemma confessed she was the cause of Dani’s near-fatal altercation with the toaster.
“The little cow!” explodes Garry, “Have you called the police?” Diane replies that it would only be her word against Gemma’s,

| Garry leaves a message for DS Fielding |
but as soon as she leaves, he rings DS Fielding’s number and leaves a message; “I’ve got some important information for you.”

| "She deserves to be punished!" |
He tells Dani she deserves to be punished for this, but Dani does not want the hassle of giving evidence.

| "I don't want to go back there" |
“I don’t want to go back there – I’m sick of worrying about things that have happened in my life, OK? Iwant to look forward to a new life – for both of us. When she phones back, tell her it was a misunderstanding, please.”

| DJ discovers a suspicious stranger |
When DJ comes into the farmhouse kitchen, Cadno has a stranger there; she says it is about servicing the tractor, but this does not fool DJ.

| "What's the going rate for an unlicenced gun?" |
He asks, “What is the going price for an unlicenced gun these days? You’ve had a wasted journey – and I’ve noted your number plate!” The stranger appears to be in a hurry to leave. Cadno again vows she will get a gun, if it is the last thing she does.

| "I'm retiring from the business" |
Jim joins Dai at the Deri, having been summoned there, and Dai announces, “I’ve decided to retire from the business.” At first Jim laughs, but he realises Dai is serious, when he says that Jim will have to look for a new partner.

“You and me – that’s what I want!” says Jim, “Diane’s behind this, isn’t she?

Ffion makes a cup of tea, opens the fridge,

hesitates, then takes out the milk and closes the door, all the while humming to herself.

| Dai tells Diane he is retiring |
Dai arrives at Bryntirion and tells Diane what he has done; “What are you going to do all day?” she demands. He responds that she is always on at him to clear out the garage, but she comments, “That will only take a weekend!”

“Oh, you’re happy to watch me work my fingers to the bone until I die? Want me to dig my own grave while I’m at it?” he moans, “I thought we could celebrate after all these years of slogging, but obviously I’m wrong!”

He storms off upstairs.

| Eifion sees a business opportunity |
In the Deri, when Eifion hears of Dai’s retirement, he asks Jim if Dai is selling his share; “I’ve got plenty of money, and there’s a gap in the market for log burners in this area,” Eifion tells him.

Cadno approaches Ed; “I want a gun – you found one for Eifion, didn’t you?”

Ed reminds her that it landed them in a heap of trouble, and calls her crazy for suggesting it. This is overheard by Garry who is lurking nearby.

As Ed leaves, Garry stops him and tells him about Gemma’s role in the attempted electrocution.

At that moment a huge man walks into the pub, demanding to see Sioned Rees. “The bloke who gave my daughter a lift tried it on with her – and she’s only sixteen!” Sioned is adamant that Ed would never do such a thing,

| "We'll settle this outside!" |
and Ed squares up to the man, suggesting, “We’ll settle this outside!” but Sioned orders him upstairs.

| "You'd better have an explanation!" |
When she comes up, she demands an explanation, and he tells her he asked Eifion to cover his shift. She is furious; “We could lose the licence! You’re back on steroids, aren’t you? Disappearing for no reason, keeping secrets, now threatening a client!”

| He admits he lost the watch . . . |
Ed is forced to admit, “I lost the watch you gave me – Eifion was driving the taxi for me while I looked for it.”

| "That's the most pathetic excuse I've heard!" |
Sioned describes this as the most pathetic excuse she has heard.
“Yes, it is pathetic, but it’s the truth,” he replies,

“Everything I touch goes wrong – like with Gemma. I’ll do more harm than good contacting her. This way she gets the chance to recover with people who know what help she needs.”

Dai and Diane sit on the sofa with their feet in bowls of water; “This is the life!” says Dai, and Diane tells him he can do it every day until his feet are like prunes. “I can sort out the rugby club,” he continues, then asks,

| Diane seems less than thrilled |
Diane replies that she watches TV, listens to radio and visits Anita. Dai asks, “So you enjoy this retirement business, do you? So you didn’t try to help Gemma because you’re lonely and miserable? It could have turned rather nasty with her yesterday. It makes me realise that you and I should spend more time together – which would be a lot easier if you were less stubborn about coming back to work!

“If I knew how miserable you were, I would have got down on my knees and begged you to come back – I miss you terribly! Please, Diane, come back and forget all this retirement business – until we’ve lost our teeth or our marbles, whichever comes first!”

Of course Diane agrees that she would love to come back, and they kiss.

As Dani and Garry are eating their meal, DS Fielding phones, but Garry rejects the call; “If you don’t want to proceed with the case, I’ll respect that – I only wanted justice, and I can be reasonable!”

Ffion has been folding washing; she looks at the photo of Arwen and mutters, “I deserve a small one, don’t I? Only one, I promise!”

Sioned brings Gemma’s bags upstairs, and tells Ed if he will not phone Andrew, she will.

and Ed retrieves Andrew’s phone. Ed is worried that she has done something to Andrew.

Cadno, downstairs, receives an anonymous text;

“I’ve got what you want,” and she replies, “Who is this?”

| Ffion just wants an early night . . . |
Ffion has just taken another bottle from the fridge as Gethin arrives, so she hands the bottle to him; she is not keen on going out or watching a film with him, maintaining she has a cold and needs an early night.

When Gethin has gone, she quickly polishes off what is left in the bottle.

| Garry is able to supply what Cadno requires |
Cadno arrives at Garry’s, asking how he knew she wanted a gun. He tells her he overheard the conversation; “Bearing in mind what happened, it makes sense. You have to protect yourself out in the sticks. Pay me when you get the gun – I don’t keep them under the bed – it will be a couple of days.”

Dai and Diane are celebrating in the Deri; “It’s not every day a man comes out of retirement,” says Dai.

Jim is amazed at the news that Diane is returning.

Eifion, however, is not so happy; That’s the end of my plans then – I was hoping I had a chance with the company.”
Dai points out, “We’re A P D – there’s no room for an E.”
He proposes a toast to “A prosperous future,” but Diane disagrees; she prefers, “To Gemma’s recovery.”

Meanwhile Gemma is sitting cross-legged on a sofa;

she looks around the room and reads on the wall the words, “A place for the soul to rest.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” she thinks aloud, and a young man behind her tells her that it helps. She asks him how long he has been there; he tells her that it does get better in time.
