A visit from the police
PC Lesley Thomas arrives to see Eileen, despite Jim’s entreaties for her to abandon this course of action.
"I want to lodge a complaint"
“I want to lodge a complaint for you to prosecute her,” she tells the PC,
"You did go in without knocking"
who reminds her that she went into the house without knocking.   Jim interrupts, “Eileen, you should be counting your blessings – it could have been a lot worse.”
PC Thomas says she will go and inform Catherine, but needs a few details first;
Jim says he is going to work
Jim goes off to Penrhewl to warn Cadno what to expect.
So this is Colin's election strategy
In the shop, Colin in his tennis gear, is seeking Llinos’ vote.   He tells Jim that image is everything these days;
Colin wants to speak to Eileen
“No-one wants Mr Blobby asking for their vote.   I want a word with a sensible person like Eileen on how to introduce myself to voters.”
Despite Jim telling him that Eileen is busy, and that he should not be canvassing in the shop,
"It will be a pleasure to represent you"
Colin continues, undeterred;  “I’m Colin Evans – it will be a pleasure to represent you on the community council!”   Jim reminds him that everyone knows who he is, but Colin insists there are a lot of strangers in the village;  “Willis, Hussein, Khan – sounds like the England cricket team!”
Gemma, doing the 'hard labour' bit
As Diane returns home with Mark, she finds Gemma on her hands and knees, scrubbing the kitchen floor;
"It's only fair, as I'm staying here"
“It’s only fair, as I’m staying here,” she says.   Diane tells Mark that she blames Gwyneth, making her think that she has to slave to stay there.
"If that story's true!"
“If that story’s true!” says Mark, “She doesn’t do anything to help herself.”
Before he leaves, he warns Diane, “Don’t forget what she did to her mother!”
Gemma is cleaning the bathroom next
Gemma comes back in, about to clean the bathroom, and announces they are going out later to help Debbie with her canvassing;  “Us women must stick together,” she says.
Cadno does not welcome Jim . . .
When Jim arrives at the farm, he asks what he can do there, but Cadno insists she does not need help;  “This quarrel shouldn’t stop us farming Penrhewl as best we can,” he tells her.
. . . and when he mentions the police are on their way . . .
Then he reveals that the police will probably be coming, as Eileen has made a complaint, and in fact are with her now.   Cadno’s response is that it was an accident and that she did not shoot Eileen.
. . . she tells him to clear off
Then she bursts out, “You’re exactly the same!   Get out, and I don’t want Eileen here either!   Don’t ever come to Penrhewl again!” and bundles him out of the door.
"You can't stop them from coming"
DJ calmly advises that she cannot stop them from coming, but she insists, “I can do whatever I want!”
Colin boasts of his tennis achievements
In the café, Colin tells Mark that he played a lot of tennis in Lampeter;  it was Gaynor and Esyllte against Lois and him.   Mark comments that he has a better racket than Mark’s, and
Debbie confirms that Mark is a good tennis player
Debbie confirms that he won a few tournaments when they were in Spain.   “Against geriatrics out there for the winter?” Colin enquires.
Diane and Gemma come in, with Gemma pleading pathetically, “Don’t leave me!”   Diane tells Debbie they are going to help with her campaign, but Debbie is confident,
“No-one is going to vote for a bloke dressed like that!”
Colins retorts, “They don’t want a couch potato representing them!”   Both the candidates assume that Mark will help them,
"Don't let Diane down!"
but he refuses as he has work to do, and leaves, telling Gemma as he goes, “You’re lucky to have Diane – don’t let her down!”
"Two sheep out, you say?"
DJ has had a phone call to report two of their sheep have got out from Ffynnon Wen, and tells Cadno he is going to retrieve them;
DJ gets his orders to chain up the gate
she produces a chain and padlock, and instructs him to put them on the gate, so that Eileen and Jim cannot get in.
Cadno the megalomaniac
“I’m the one who farms here, and I don’t need your advice!   You’re the farmhand, so you do as I tell you.   This home belongs to me and the boys, and I’m being prosecuted for protecting it!”
Debbie's spiel is unsuccessful on Gwynfor
Debbie is trying to persuade Gwynfor to vote for her, telling him what she will do, and that Colin is useless, but Gwynfor escapes, saying, “I’m happy, thanks.”   She comments rather unpleasantly, “Some people don’t want to climb out of the gutter!”
"I've been thrown out of Penrhewl"
As Eileen is telling her that no canvassing is allowed in the shop, Jim rushes in with the news that he has been thrown out of Penrhewl.
"I'm going to sort her out"
Eileen hobbles to the door and demands, “Are you coming?   I can’t drive myself!   She has no right to treat you like that, and I’m going to sort her out!”
Colin tries to enlist Mark's help . . .
Colin goes to see Mark and seek his help,
. . . but Mark would rather watch tennis on TV
but Mark wants to sit and watch Wimbledon, and refuses to help either of the candidates.   “We were closer than Morecambe and Wise,” pleads Colin, “You can’t sit on the fence now.”
Colin has an idea
He suggests a game of tennis;  “If I win, you support me – if you win, you support your ex.”
He remembers his tennis-playing past
Mark rummages in the cupboard under the stairs and looks for his racket, as Colin tells him, “I used to play inter-college student tennis – I spent so much time with Gaynor there, they thought I was a student!”
PC Thomas arrives at Penrhewl
The PC arrives at the farm, and Cadno cannot believe Eileen made a complaint;
"I thought the thieves had come back!"
“She shouldn’t be wasting your time.”   PC Thomas says that Cadno did not give any warning before firing the gun, and Cadno replies that the door was locked and she was unaware that Eileen had a key;  “I thought the thieves had come back and we were in danger!”
The PC sympathises, but reminds Cadno that an innocent person was injured, and that any incident of a gun being fired is serious.   Cadno is again becoming angry;  “Find the people who stole the quad – don’t prosecute innocent people!”   Informing her that the file will be sent to the CPS, PC Thomas warns her to stay away from Mrs Probert.
"I've still got the touch!"
As Colin arrives at the tennis court, he is speaking to Izzy on the phone;  “I’ve still got the touch – just like Nastase.   It won’t take long to beat Mark – he’s got two left hands!”
Colin starts playing before Mark is in place
Before Mark can take up his position at the other end of the court, Colin sends several balls in that direction.
“Fifteen - love, thirty - love, forty - love, game!” he shouts, much to Mark’s displeasure.
"You'd lose me votes!"
Debbie addresses Gemma in the café;  “I hope you’re not taking advantage – it wouldn’t be the first time!   I don’t want your help with the election – you’d lose me votes, with all the lies you’ve told!”
Gemma gives some campaign advice
Gemma offer her some advice on her campaign;  she should focus on selling herself and not criticising Colin, and should use the fact that she is a woman.   Debbie however considers that a customer discount is the way to get votes.   Gemma announces to Diane that she is going home.
"You must learn to bite that tongue of yours!"
Diane tells Debbie that if she wants to be a councillor, “You must learn to bite that tongue of yours!”
The players are hard at it
The tennis score has reached 4 - 2 in Mark’s favour, and he tells Colin, “Just accept that I’m better than you!”
Colin appears to be a very bad loser . . .
Colin, however, denounces him as a cheat;  “Stuff you and your tennis!” and walks off.
. . . and beats his racket against a post
Marks shouts after him, “Ooh!   McEnroe!   That’s not the way a wannabe councillor behaves!”
Eileen finds her way barred
DJ is chaining up the gate as Eileen’s Nissan Micra arrives;  Eileen demands, “Stop this nonsense!   Cadno wants us locked out!” but DJ tells them he is only carrying out the boss’s orders.
Jim’s demand to hand over the key, as they own half the place, is ignored;
DJ gives Jim a quiet hint
DJ does tell him the bolt-cutters are in the shed, “But not a word to Cadno!”
Cadno appears quite pleased with herself
When Cadno arrives, Eileen is furious;
"Denz would turn in his grave!"
“How could you stoop so low?   Denz would turn in his grave!”
Cadno replies, “Denz wouldn’t have stabbed me in the back and sent the police here – you don’t have the guts to sort it out face to face!”
Diane is afraid that Gemma has been affected
Back home at Bryntirion, Diane says she could have throttled Debbie for what she said, but Gemma asks,
Gemma encourages Diane to withdraw her support for Debbie
“Do you think she would make a good councillor?   You don’t have to support her.   She only said what everyone else thinks – going out today was a mistake.
"I'm safe here with you and Dai!"
I’m safe here with you and Dai.”
"We'll be a laughing-stock!"
Eileen addresses Cadno across the gate;  “You’re being irresponsible!   The children will remember this, and we’ll be a laughing-stock because of you!”
"You're the one who will not let it drop!"
Cadno replies that it is Eileen who will not let the matter drop, and Jim, wielding the bolt-cutters, gives an ultimatum;  “Hand over the key, or I snap the lock!”   Eileen wants him to do it, so they can sit down and talk.
Jim cuts the chain . . .
As he cuts the chain, Cadno records the scene on her phone’s camera, shouting hysterically,
. . . while Cadno gleefully captures the moment on film
“I’ll prosecute you for trespass!   I’ve got evidence!   How will you feel when they arrest you?”
Eileen maintains she did not want a prosecution, but simply to warn Cadno;  “It didn’t have to come to this,” she says.
"She has completely lost it!"
“It’s too late now!” replies Cadno, and leaves Eileen and Jim looking at each other.
