“Eileen! Eileen!” shouts Cadno, and on hearing a groan, heaves a sigh of relief, “Oh, I’m so glad you’re OK!”

We see that Eileen has a shard of glass from the mirror embedded in her leg. “I don’t know what came over me – what have I done?” she continues,

| "Aargh! Call an ambulance!" |
as Eileen urges her to call an ambulance.

| Wiliam's police training takes over |
There is a knock on the door, and PC Wiliam takes control of the situation, calmly encouraging Cadno to hand him the gun, and telling Iolo to get some cloths to stop the bleeding.

| "I only wanted to scare them!" |
Cadno blurts out that she thought it was intruders, as she has just been burgled. “I only wanted to scare them,” she insists,

and meekly hands the gun to Wiliam.

| Ed does not have much work on |
In the Deri, Ed complains to Britt that the taxis are always quiet at the beginning of the week.

| "Siôn, you're a man who knows what's what" |
Jim tells Siôn, “You’re a man who knows what’s what,” and Siôn replies that he used to think that. Jim continues rambling about fields full of big bales, but, on seeing Garry leaving the Deri, Siôn grabs his jacket and follows.

Jim asks Britt, “Do you know anything about silage?”

| Marian has sorted out the boys |
At Penrhewl, Marian assures Cadno that the boys are now settled again in bed, and Wiliam advises that they have to call an ambulance,

| Wiliam describes what will happen |
“And as a gun has been fired, the police will have to attend.”
Cadno asks if she will be arrested; “I was frightened – anyone would have done the same.” Eileen says, “You could have killed me!” and reminds Cadno that she has had a farm key for years, since she used to live there.

| A surprise night-time visitor to the garage |
In the darkness, Garry is looking at the garage laptop and has just made a phone call when Siôn comes in;

| "I need to borrow money!" |
“I need to borrow money – and fast!” he says, and when Garry asks why, he continues, “I’m in trouble, and if I don’t find £15,500 by tomorrow, we’ll lose the Deri! I don’t know where else to turn.”

| "How long's this been going on?" |
When Garry enquires how long this has been going on, he is told it is since Siôn bought the Deri. Garry says he needs time to think,

| "Can't you help your sister?" |
but Siôn insists there is no time; “Can’t you help your sister, who’s in trouble?
Garry tells him there is an etiquette to such arrangements, and hassling him will not help;

“I’ll be in touch,” he says, and Siôn leaves.

| "Siôn's left his phone behind" |
Britt tries ringing Siôn’s phone, but finds he has left it in the Deri,

and Jim again has no success at contacting DJ; he tells Britt he is trying to get help with a problem.

Ed returns to Ben’s house with the bank card, but finds the front door open,

and sees Helen lying on the floor. “Are you all right?” he asks, and as she replies, “Do I look all right?” helps her to the sofa.

Ed is convinced that Ben has been hurting her, but she explains she has MS, and when she collapses, she cannot do anything about it.

“It’s lucky you’re nosy, or I could have been lying there for ages. I can be fine for months, then it will happen out of the blue, and it will get worse with time.” She explains it is not the first time Ben has lost his bank card, and asks Ed to make them a cup of tea.

Siôn goes into Bethania, and sits down in the front pew.

He says, “Everything I’ve done was for Cwmderi. The money was sitting there – what use is £15,000 sitting in a bank, when the village needs a pub? The community would have died without the Deri. I know it’s my fault – now I have to put an end to all the deception, but I need Your help! If I could just get £15,500 from somewhere – anywhere – please!”

He is surprised suddenly to hear a cough from the back of the chapel, where Garry is sitting.

The kitchen at Penrhewl is rather crowded, with two ambulance crew and two police officers;

| PC Thomas will be taking statements |
Wiliam reports that Cadno co-operated throughout and handed over the gun immediately. PC Lesley Thomas says she will have to take statements from everyone concerned, and Eileen remarks, “She has been scared of her own shadow since that theft.”
Eileen asks Wiliam to phone Jim to meet her at the hospital, and she is conveyed to the ambulance.

Ed tells Helen that it was difficult to give up the Deri, but Sioned was very stubborn, being a spoilt child. “On her eighteenth birthday, she was determined she’d get a car – she went on an on about it –

| Ben does not look happy when he returns |
At this point, Ben returns, and demands, “Have you told him?” Helen assures him she has not told Ed anything, and Ed explains he found her lying on the floor when he came to return the bank card. As Ben helps Helen upstairs to bed,

she advises Ed, “Look after Sioned – it’ll be worth it, you’ll see!”

Ed hears them talking on the way upstairs about being angry and needing every penny; he looks puzzled.

Garry is enjoying this confrontation; “So that’s how you managed to gazump Meic Pierce! A dying man’s last wish – that’s low!”

| Siôn argues he did it for the best of motives |
Siôn argues that it was best for the community, as Meic was dying and would never have succeeded; “But now I’m telling lies and borrowing money!”

| "And now Megan's sniffing around?" |
Garry corrects him; “Stealing money! And now Megan’s sniffing around?”
Siôn blames himself for suggesting she paid the collection in at the bank, as, while there, she asked for a copy bank statement, which revealed the discrepancy. Garry smiles; “Siôn White – not so white now, are you?” When Siôn insists he has to have that money, Garry leans forward and suggests,

which causes Siôn some consternation. “How much time have we got?” Garry enquires, and hearing the money is required by tomorrow, tells Siôn to leave it with him.

PC Thomas advises Cadno that she will not be arrested, but they will take away her gun and revoke the firearms licence.

When the police leave, Iolo offers to spend the night on the sofa there, but Cadno tells them she will be all right.

In the Deri, Jim has a message from Wiliam, and panics: “Cadno has shot Eileen!” he shouts to Britt,

who rings Ed to urgently bring a taxi to take Jim to the hospital. She wonders where Siôn has gone.

| Siôn lurks in the chapel doorway |
Siôn is about to emerge from Bethania, but hides until Wiliam and Iolo have passed. At the door of number 7, Iolo recalls,

“I could have got shot tonight! I only saw Cadno a couple of hours before – there’s no telling what people will do!”

Wiliam tells him, “The offer still stands, Iol, I’m serious – just think about it.”

Siôn comes out of the chapel and walks along the street, seeing Ed and Jim getting into the taxi outside the Deri.

As Siôn stops and looks up at the pub, Garry approaches and informs him,

“I can get you the money, but I need a couple of days. You’ll have to think of some story to tell Megan.”

Siôn nods, then walks into the Deri.

He is greeted by Britt demanding where he has been, and telling him that Eileen has been shot by Cadno. “Jim was here in tears, and I couldn’t help him because you weren’t here!”

| "Garry is going to give us a loan" |
Siôn tells her his good news; “Garry is going to give us a loan!” but Britt’s reaction is not what he expected.

| "I can't believe you're so stupid!" |
“No – I can’t believe you’re so stupid! You might as well hand over the keys of the Deri straightaway, if you accept a loan from Garry!
Siôn accuses her of over-reacting, calling it, “A family favour.” Britt, however, knows from experience, ![]() |
| Britt makes a chilling prediction |
“Garry doesn’t do anything for anyone, unless there’s something in it for him!
