| Hywel does not want to be held up |
In the shop, Hywel waits impatiently while Eileen is on the phone; Jim cannot help as he is rushing to Penrhewl, where the sheep have escaped from their field.

| "Colin's treating this place like a hobby" |
Eileen is angry that Colin, “Is treating this place like a hobby. If CwmFM and Gwyneth click their fingers, he is there!”
Gaynor comes in and Hywel tells her that Sheryl is having surgery today.

| "It's not my concern any more" |
After he has gone, she tells Eileen, “I find it strange, not knowing what’s going on in his life – but it’s not my concern any more.”

| "I can't contact Gethin" |
Ffion tries to contact Gethin, but only gets voicemail. Kelly urges her not to bother about him; “All that matters is you today. I’m going to be out all day – the paper has a big scoop – and it would be amazing to come back and find dinner ready.

“All you need for shepherd’s pie is here. It’s daft that I’m still locking you in,”

| Kelly trusts her with the keys |
she concludes, and she puts the keys on the counter.

| Ffion has to admits she is tempted |
Ffion is doubtful whether she is ready; “I don’t want to go out – I’ll just pretend they’re not here.” Kelly goes off to work, promising to be back by five.

| The operation approaches |
Sheryl is prepared for the operation, and is accompanied by Hywel

| Meilyr is blissfully ignorant |
and Meilyr. The doctor comes to get written consent to go ahead,

| Now Hywel argues against the operation . . . |
and Hywel has his doubts, but Sheryl insists, “I want to be with you and Meilyr for a long time to come.” The doctor tells her to try and relax.

| . . . but Sheryl realises it is the only way |
Hywel describes her as brave, but she responds, “I’m just practical – without surgery, I wouldn’t see Meilyr grow up. With the treatment I have a good chance of that. It’s the only way.

| "That dog is absolutely useless!" |
Jim has managed to get the sheep back in, and moans about the uselessness of the dog; Cadno says that he only understands DJ. He’ll be glad to see his master back home!” she adds, and Jim comments that he will not be the only one.

| "That will be the surveyors for the new houses" |
Cadno tells him that the fence through which the sheep escaped must have been damaged by the surveyors, for the proposed 100 new houses between the farm and the village.

She shows him the letter she received about it.

Gwyneth and Colin are busy selecting music when Eileen visits CwmFM,

| Eileen wants to sort out Colin's hours |
and complains that Gwyneth is dragging Colin away from his work at the shop. “I want to know when he will be working,” she demands.

| He listens to their bickering . . . |
This quickly degenerates into an argument between the two women, and Colin is unable to get his voice heard.

“I should not be telling you this,” he says when he can finally get a word in, “But I have an interview with Radio Cymru, I’ve been head-hunted! I’ve got contacts and it’s who you know in this business!”

Gwyneth laughs at this idea,

| . . . but Eileen takes the matter more seriously |
but Eileen appears to be worried.
“When I’m offered this slot, I won’t have time for the shop or CwmFM,” he predicts, “That’s the price of success, ladies.”

| "We'll see you in a few hours" |
As Hywel promises that Sheryl will see them again in a few hours, she cries and cuddles Meilyr.

| The idea of an earlier wedding surprises Sheryl |
Hywel suggests, “We could get married at Christmas – there’s no need to wait until summer. Then we could enjoy our first Christmas as a real family.”

| She hands back her baby . . . |
Then it is time for her to go to the theatre, and she kisses the baby, handing him back to Hywel, who assures her, “We’ll be waiting for you when you come out.”

Her trolley is wheeled away, leaving him looking lost.

Ffion, busily chopping a large amount of onions, takes a sip of water,

| There are those keys again |
and puts the glass down next to the bunch of keys.

| "We don't want to lose Colin" |
Eileen visits Gwyneth, expressing her anxiety about what Colin told them; “I don’t want to lose him from the shop, and you don’t want him leaving CwmFM. We need to draw up a fair timetable for him, get him to agree to it and forget Radio Cymru. If it all went wrong, he wouldn’t have anything to come back to – we’re not safety nets!”

Gwyneth points out that he is good on radio,

| "We could plant doubts in his mind" |
but Eileen maintains that it would not be difficult to plant doubt in his mind; “We don’t want to drag Hywel back to work before he’s ready!” she opines. Gwyneth describes her as very sneaky.

Hywel waits impatiently, and asks a passing nurse why things are taking so long; she says she will try to find out.

Then he gets out his phone and prepares to call Gaynor.

In the Deri, Gaynor and Idwal are at the bar; They are celebrating her birthday early, as she has a meeting on Thursday. Nearby, Kelly is wasting time until her five o’clock deadline to return to Ffion.

Gaynor’s phone rings; she says, “When did she go to theatre? I’m sure there’s a simple explanation. Let me know what they say.”
She returns to Idwal, who asks,

“Hywel? Better he phones now than spoil our meal later!”

| "Here's a new bolt for the shed" |
At Penrhewl, Jim has a new bolt for the shed door; “Things get left now I’m on my own,” Cadno tells him,

| "Protesting about the houses will take up some time" |
“And protesting about these houses will take up some time.”
“I don’t think it’s a bad idea – people always need houses,” replies Jim, “Change isn’t always a bad thing – you’d change your tune if if they offered money for a few fields.”

Cadno’s temper flares again; “If that’s what you think, I can do without your help – this is an important matter! Go and sell breezeblocks to people who’ll change our community! You and APD can hear the sound of money in the till!”

He puts a handful of screws for fixing the bolt on the table, remarking, “Compliments of APD!”
Colin sums up matters; “So if I try to move on with my career, you two don’t want to know me?” Eileen insists that she does not want him to get hurt.

“A national radio station is not like CwmFM,” argues Gwyneth, “You have to be ruthless to succeed.”
“Eileen adds, “You’re too nice – you have security here, and people appreciate you.” She gives him the sheet of proposed details.

“Are these hours guaranteed – each week? I want it all in black and white! Now excuse me, I have a programme to present.” He dons his headphones and addresses the microphone;

“Good evening, CwmFM, this is your local DJ, Col! The man who chooses to stay on his home patch, attached to the place and its people!”

| Ffion is not here . . . |
Kelly arrives back at Cysgod y Glyn and finds Ffion is not there.

| . . . and has not taken her phone . . . |
She is disappointed, and phones Ffion’s number; a phone on the counter springs into life,

| "Oh – what have I done?" |
and Kelly fears the worst. Suddenly Ffion returns, and Kelly exclaims,

“Where have you been? I trusted you!”

| "I went to get baking powder" |
Ffion explains, “You were right to trust me – I went to the shop to get baking powder.” Kelly reveals that she thought . . .

Ffion completes the sentence; “You thought that I was on a bench, drinking vodka!”
Kelly admits that thought she had made a mistake, trusting her too soon, but Ffion tells her, “I walked to the shop, bought baking powder, said hello to Eileen and Mark, then walked home. I wanted to get home before you.

“After I made the shepherd’s pie, I thought that Arwen will be three on Thursday, so I would make her a cake, for when she comes home.

“I’ll let her have a party with Britt and Siôn first.”
Seeing Kelly’s doubtful expression, she adds, “Don’t you think I’m well enough?” Kelly agrees that today proved she can be left for short spells, but Ffion insists,

“Today proved I’m better! Arwen will be back with me by the weekend, OK?”

| Gaynor cannot stop looking at her phone |
As Gaynor and Idwal eat their meal in the Deri, she continually looks at her phone; “Please!” he implores her,

but she points out that Sheryl should be out of theatre by now, and that he needs someone to help him through this.

| "And you want him to need you!" |
“And you want him to need you!” says Idwal, rather exasperated, “You’re his EX-wife - he’ll be fine!”

| Colin admits he made it all up |
At the bar, Gwyneth tells Colin she is glad he decided to stick with CwmFM and the shop. Colin confesses that he has not actually had a job offer; “But I had to do something to shut you and Eileen up! Don’t tell Eileen – I doubt she would laugh about it!”

| "What is wrong?" |
Hywel is distraught when Sheryl is wheeled along the corridor on the trolley and the doctor informs him, “She is going to the intensive care unit – there were complications. Things may look different in the morning.”

As the trolley recedes into the distance,
