3 September 2015

"I'm sure it will be all right!"
As Cadno prepares to leave, Marian tries to assure her that everything will be all right.
"I don't want anyone coming with me"
DJ appears in a suit, but Cadno refuses to have him go with her.
Eifion arrives
Then Eifion arrives;  she tells him she is as ready as she ever will be, and she has decided how she is going to plead.
Gemma seems quite cheerful . . .
Gemma comes into the Deri flat and cheerfully announces, “Here I am – round two!”   Sioned goes out,
. . . but Ed insists on fussing over her . . .
and Ed apologises profusely for not believing Gemma, then fusses over her, offering her a bowl of cawl, which she reluctantly accepts.
. . . but is not interested in her treatment
He seems remarkably uninterested when she offers to tell him about the therapy, and about the future visits of the nurse.
"I can't go, and I'm on her side
DJ meets Eileen, who is on her way to the court, and remarks, “That’s a joke – I can’t go, and I’m on her side!”
"I'm keeping out of Eileen's way"
Next, he has to explain to Jim that Cadno did not want him there.   Jim admits he is keeping out of Eileen’s way until this is all over.
Then DJ enquires what they are going to do about Eifion;  “If no-one stands up to him, he’ll never stop!   We have to stick together, you, me and Ed.”   Jim is of the opinion that such retaliation is pointless.
"Are you going to insult me again?"
When she meets Eileen, Sioned asks, “Are you going to insult me again today?   Going to court to support your favourite?”   Eileen replies that she was stupid to do what she did,
"Say goodbye to Cadno for me!"
but Sioned snaps, “Excuse me, I’m going to see what I could have had!   Say goodbye to Cadno for me,” and heads towards the café.
Courtney comes to see Gemma
Ed is constantly fussing and getting on Gemma’s nerves when Courtney comes to visit her. Ed thinks it unwise for her to be there;  “Gemma needs time to get better – see her another time.”
Half an hour with Courtney is better than your cawl!"
Gemma insists that half an hour with Courtney will do her more good than his cawl, so he leaves them.
"Yes, I'm happy in hospital"
Gemma says that hospital was the best thing she ever did, and admits, “Yes, I’m happy in hospital.”
"We're not open!"
There is a knock on the door of the Deri, and Ows shouts that they are not open;  however, it is Jim and DJ to see Ed, so he lets them in.
DJ and Jim want ideas from Ed
They apologise to Ed, and he soon realises they are after something.   “We want to get our own back on Eifion, and don’t know how,” they tell him, and ask if he has any ideas.
"There's a ten-minute rule"
“From what I hear, there’s a ‘ten-minute rule’ with parking tickets.   If it’s booked within ten minutes, that’s illegal.   Get some video evidence – and bingo!” Ed advises, and they hurry out of the Deri.
Cadno is in the dock
In the court, Cadno stands forlornly in the dock, and when asked how she pleads, she hesitates, looks around at Elin and Eileen,
After some deliberation, she pleads "Guilty!"
and then says, “Guilty!”   Eileen almost smiles.
They sit, silently
Ed and Gemma sit on the sofa, not knowing what to say to each other;  then Sioned comes in, looking for Deri Deithio’s VAT book.    She suggests that Gemma should go for a walk,
"I don't think that's a good idea"
but Ed is not in favour of this, maintaining that they are supposed to be looking after her.
"That doesn't mean imprisonment!"
“That doesn’t mean imprisonment!” replies Sioned, and as Gemma leaves, reassures Ed that she will be all right.
The sentence is passed . . .
The magistrates file back into the courtroom, and announce to Cadno, “On the basis of the Probation Service report, we sentence you to six months’s imprisonment . . .”
Cadno is aghast . . .
Cadno looks aghast, but the magistrate continues “. . . suspended for twelve months.”
. . . but soon looks relieved
Cadno breathes a sigh of relief, and both Elin Francis and Eileen are smiling.
DJ and Jim lay a trap . . .
Behind the chippy, Jim peers round the corner, accompanied by DJ and armed with a video camera;
. . . and Eifion walks, unsuspecting, into it
when Eifion sees Eileen’s car on the yellow lines, he immediately photographs it.
"You're breaking the law!"
Jim jumps out, announcing, “Caught you!   Breaking the law – the ten-minute rule!   If you don’t promise to behave, we’ll take you to court!”   Eifion seems remarkably untroubled and points out that the rule is only a courtesy and means nothing legally.
Jim points out Officer Rowlands' misdemeanour
His supervisor arrives, and Jim reports, “Officer Rowlands is booking people less that ten minutes after they have parked!   That’s against the law!”
"Mr Probert, let me make this clear"
The supervisor asks, “Where did you read that?   Mr Probert, let me make this clear;  illegal parking is illegal parking, no matter how long the vehicle has been there.   I suggest you pay your fines, and stop wasting our time!”
"Six months, suspended"
DJ sees Cadno passing, and follows her into the Deri;  “I’m guessing you didn’t get jail, then?”   Cadno tells him she received six months, suspended, and he says he will buy her a pint of lager.
"Do you want to buy me a drink too?"
Sioned comes in and Cadno asks her, “Do you want to buy me a drink too?   Aren’t you going to congratulate me?
Sioned has worked out what she is going to do . . .
My sentence is over – we’ll wait to see if other people will pay for what they did!”
. . . contact the police
As soon as she is out of sight, Sioned makes a phone call;  “Police?” she says.
Courtney goes to see Eileen, and when told that she looks rather tired, confesses that she is suffering from Period Pains;
"I don't know what to do"
They’re bad, but I don’t know what to do!”   Eileen thinks she can help.
"They've let you out, then!"
Gemma comes out of the shop, after buying a magazine, and meets Eifion.   “They’ve let you out then – does that mean the village is safe now?” he jokingly enquires.
This does not go down well;  Gemma demands, “So you think mental illness is funny?”
Eifion insists, “A bit of humour can help – mustn’t take yourself too seriously.   I went through a bad patch, a bit of depression, and had to take tablets and things, but I learned to laugh at myself.”
"Leave me alone!"
Gemma shouts, “You have no idea what I’ve been through.   It’s hard enough to walk down the street without someone making you feel worse!   Leave me alone!”
Eileen prepares some concoction – probably ginger
As Eileen grates something into a mug and invites Courtney to drink it, she asks if her mother gives her advice.   “I don’t want to discuss it with her,” answers Courtney, “You know how she is, making a fuss and going OTT, like when she accused Rhys –
"Mam's so embarrassing!"
she’s so embarrassing!”
"You set us up!"
Jim confronts Ed in the Deri;  “Oi!   I want a word with you.   You set us up – there’s no such thing as the ‘ten-minute rule’, and you’ll have to pay our fine!”   Ed is apologetic, calling it “an honest mistake”.
"Boys, keep this in perspective"
Eifion arrives and tries to keep the peace;  “Boys, keep this in perspective!   All you have to do is keep within the law and we can all be friends.   I’ll buy you both a pint.”
This sounds good to Ed,
"Stuff your pint!"
but Jim protests, “Stuff your pint!”
Surprising what a difference a hot water bottle makes
Courtney, on the sofa with a hot water bottle, is surprised that Mam-gu’s old methods seem to work.
"You should see your GP"
Eileen advises her to go to the GP, and that her mother can give her advice,
"Come with me, please!"
but Courtney pleads, “Will you come with me to the doctor’s?”
Initially Eileen refuses, as it would be going behind Angela’s back, but eventually agrees to Courtney’s request.
"I almost changed my plea to 'not guilty'"
Back at Penrhewl, Cadno admits to Marian that she almost changed her plea,
"It's back to normal now"
but is relieved to have a normal life again now.   However, she has spoken too soon, as when she is about to go and collect the boys, there is a knock at the door.
Lesley Thomas has a search warrant
PC Lesley Thomas and another officer arrive with a warrant to search the farm for an illegal firearm.
Sioned's conscience is now troubling her
Sioned is sitting on the sofa, looking guilty, when Ed comes in, and is troubled that Gemma has not come back.   However, as Sioned tells him to stop fussing and he is about to go looking for her,
Gemma appears to regret leaving the hospital
she returns, looking far from happy, but tells Ed that nothing is wrong.
"Well, look what I've found!"
In the farmyard, Cadno enquires how long the search will take, then the other officer approaches with a gun.   “Do you have a licence for this gun?” asks PC Thomas;  Cadno and DJ look at each other.   “Catherine Richards, I am arresting you on suspicion of possession of an illegal firearm.”
"Catherine Richards, I am arresting you"
“Yeah, I know the drill!” replies Cadno, and is led away to the waiting police car.
