28 August 2015

All Sheryl's worldly goods seem to be there
Hywel has just used the last of the milk when Gaynor comes downstairs and climbs over their belongings in the hall;
"Very nice pram!"
“You’ve got a very nice pram!” she remarks, and Hywel assures her he will take it upstairs.
"I don't want you to think we're taking advantage"
He tells her, “I’ll go to the shop later for milk and bread – I don’t want you to think we’re taking advantage of you.   We should start a kitty, so that we can share costs.”   When Gaynor enquires how long they intend staying, he replies that Sheryl will not go back for a while;  “It’s too dangerous – the stuff is everywhere – it stinks!”
“Yes, what a pity,” agrees Gaynor, “It’s odd that Sheryl wasn’t more careful when she was using it.”
"I expected breakfast in bed"
Then Sheryl comes downstairs, and tells Hywel she expected breakfast in bed;
Sheryl issues her orders
she advises that she wants yoghurt, preferably strawberry.   Gaynor smiles and says, “I’ll make you a pot of coffee – black!”
Wiliam tinkers with his phone app
Iolo and Wiliam are out on their bikes;  Wiliam has a cycling app on his phone, and tells Iolo that he is only ninth at the moment and wants to be top.
Quick, Eifion, your victim is getting away!
Eifion swaggers up and talks to them;  when he turns to issue a ticket to the red car parked behind him, the driver is already moving off.
"I can look out for suspicious characters"
“The important thing is to make the roads safe,” he tells them, adding, “If you want me to look out for suspicious characters, just let me know.”
Off they go  (there is no parking restriction!)
The two cyclists speed off along the road.
"Why the long face?"
When Sioned visits Eileen’s, Jim asks her, “Why the long face – on a diet?”   Sioned complains that she is getting no support from Ed on this café business, and it is pointless without him.
"I shall be running taxis for the rest of my life!"
“I shall be running taxis for the rest of my life!” she wails.   Eileen suggests she could expand Deri Deithio with more cars;  she says, “More sick to clear up every Sunday morning?   More customers hassling me about lost phones?” and stalks off.
"In case I want to buy it"
Eileen asks Jim to have a look at the café to see if it needs any big jobs doing, “In case I want to buy it – I quite like the idea of owning two businesses across the road from each other.”
"You're thinking of buying it for Sioned"
Jim, however, sees what she intends;  “You’re just thinking of buying it for Sioned – she needs to realise she can’t always have what she wants.   If you buy that place, it will go the same way as the Deri did!”
"I have a plan"
Eileen assures him that she has a plan so that does not happen.
Routine maintenance
The cyclists have stopped for some running repairs, and Wiliam admits he has enjoyed their morning.
Iolo prefers fresh air
Iolo agrees;  “Fresh air beats the smell of people’s drains.”
Angela does not know her own strength
Meanwhile, Angela has removed the u-bend under her sink to clean it, but when she replaces it, there is a leak.   In her attempts to tighten it, the whole thing comes off in her hands.
Eileen puts the kettle on, to calm the situation
Eileen, who has been watching her efforts, suggests that she needs a complete change of direction – a new challenge, to keep life exciting.
"How would you like to run the café?"
“How would you like to run the café?   It’s for sale, and Debbie is not making the most of the place,” Eileen insists, “It would be much like what you do now, but with less running around.”
"We need the space for our clothes"
Sheryl brings Gaynor an armful of clothes;  “These were in the wardrobe and we need the space for our clothes.
"You don't wear stuff like this, surely?"
You don’t still wear stuff like this, surely?”
Gaynor smiles sweetly
Gaynor smiles and says that they could go to Megan’s shop, and Sheryl informs her, “We could take them – we have to get more things from the flat.”
"We'll stay until the baby is born"
When Gaynor goes upstairs to fetch some more, Sheryl tells Hywel, “We should have moved in ages ago – she’s not complaining at all.   We’ll stay until the baby is born, then it will be a lot harder  for her to throw us out.   This will be our new family home!”
Hywel obediently does the fetching and carrying
When they have left, Gaynor rings her solicitor;
"I need to discuss the terms of the divorce"
“Would it be possible to come in for a chat?   I need to discuss the terms of the divorce.”
Wiliam fancies running a hotel
Wiliam and Iolo are in the Deri, where Iolo complains about, “Cleaning Mrs Morgan’s pipes in Llanarthur,” and Wiliam voices ambitions to run a hotel.
"Why don't you buy the café?"
Jim comes over to talk to them;  “I couldn’t help overhearing, but why don’t you buy the café and run it together?   When Wiliam says it would make a change from chasing crooks, Jim comments,
"You haven't found our stolen scaffolding!"
“You’re no good at that – you haven’t found our stolen scaffolding!”
"Please, Iolo, can you help me?"
Then Angela arrives and pleads with Iolo to come and sort out her sink;  “It will only take you five minutes, and I’m sure Macs would be pleased to know you’re looking after his house.”
"I get no support from you!"
Eileen goes to see Sioned, who is aggrieved that she has been talking to Angela about the café.   “She can forget it – it’s my idea!   I get no support from you – what’s so special about Angela?”
Eileen points out that Angela has been running her own business for years.   “Giving old people baths?” says Sioned, dismissively,
"I do a bit more than that," says Angela
and then Angela arrives.
"You can't run a business!"
Sioned will not accept that Angela knows anything about running a business, and is adamant she does not want anyone to run the café with her.
Eileen remarks that Angela is used to dealing with people, and Sioned flies off the handle again;  “Are you saying that I’ve got no tact?   That I’m a failure?   You know how to kick someone when they’re down!”
I detect a marked lack of enthusiasm
Angela spells it out to her that Mam wants to buy the café, and for them to run it, but Sioned remains unimpressed.
Gaynor comes in to find loud music playing;  Hywel turns it off, and Sheryl moans, “I was listening to that!”
Sheryl's demands include fresh fruit and vegetables
She then goes on to demand that she needs fresh fruit and vegetables for her daily smoothies.   She tells Hywel that they can go out for dinner;  “We must make the most of the freedom before the baby comes.”
"Things will be better next week"
Hywel is apologetic to Gaynor;  “Things will be better next week.   We’ll be back at work, and you won’t know we’re here.”
Gaynor spells it out to Hywel
Gaynor gives him an ultimatum;  “My solicitor tells me I can take legal steps to get you out!   It will cost you a fortune to fight me!   That ‘accident with the varnish’ story – I thought you were a better liar than that!   Persuade Sheryl to go back to the flat – or you could lose everything you have!”
Iolo parks his van on the newly-painted double yellow lines by the chippy, and Cadno arrives in the farm’s 4x4, on her way to get chips;
Cadno wants to talk about a holiday for the boys
Eifion takes a photo of Iolo’s van, and will not listen to Cadno, who wants to take the boys for a holiday on the Gower.
"Why have you got the café accounts?"
Sioned is angry that Angela has the café accounts.   “They look promising to me,” Angela enthuses, “I can’t understand you – if Mam buys the café, you get exactly what you want.   You hate the fact that your mother is organising everything and you don’t get a say.”
"I don't want her controlling my life!"
“I don’t want her controlling my life!   Nobody asked me if I want you as a partner!” answers Sioned, but Angela tells her she is not interested in running the café –
"I could be the 'silent partner'."
she could just be the ‘silent partner’.”
"I quite like that idea!"
“Do you know what?   I quite like that idea!” says Sioned.
Iolo is furious when he finds the parking ticket on his van, and Eifion warns him not to tear it up.
Eifion is revelling in his new power
The fact that Iolo was doing Angela a favour makes no difference to him,
"Shift this, or you'll get one as well!"
and he goes round the corner to threaten Cadno with the same treatment;  “Shift this, or you’ll get one as well!”
Angela is disgusted at what Eifion has become
Angela watches him from the door of the Deri.
"That Eifion's lost the plot!"
Inside, Jim tells Eileen that Eifion has lost the plot, and she replies that he is just an embarrassment;  “You should be wary of giving the café to the girls – Eifion might get his hands on it!” warns Jim, “You should talk to a solicitor first.”
"The girls and I will be safe!"
Eileen replies, “You’re trying to stop me buying, aren’t you?   Don’t worry – the girls and I will be safe!”
Angela is very apologetic
Then Angela comes in, apologising for putting pressure on Iolo to do the job;  “The power has gone to Eifion’s head!   I’ll pay the ticket – and make sure Eifion contributes.   He’ll be living like a monk for a while, and when I’m finished with him, he’ll be dying to change career!”
"We're considering a change of direction"
Iolo mentions, “We’re considering a complete change of direction – running our own business.”   He asks what Angela thinks,
"You would spend every night making up"
and she predicts that they would get on each other’s nerves – and spend every night making up!
"She's starting to get fed up!"
Gaynor tells the happy couple, “I’m going out for the afternoon to give you some peace.   Maybe you’ll have gone by the time I come back!”   Sheryl giggles, “She’s starting to get fed up!”
"Do you want things to turn nasty?"
Hywel warns that Gaynor is now stronger than she used to be, but Sheryl is confident;  “If we stick together, she’ll crack!”
Hywel asks, “Do we want things to turn nasty?   She’s threatened to fight, and this is supposed to be a happy time.”
"I'm happy – here!"
“I am happy – here,” answers Sheryl, “She’ll be gone by next weekend, trust me!”
She restores their photo to Gaynor's sideboard . . .
She returns a photo of herself and Hywel to pride of place on the sideboard,
. . . and looks insufferably smug
and Hywel is at a loss to know what to do.
