15 December 2015

Out come the placards
The protesters, Anita, Beti, Eileen, Llinos, Madge and Megan unload their placards from the 4x4.   Cadno reveals she has to do her duty elsewhere;  “I’m visiting DJ.”
"If they knew, they'd see things differently"
Across the road, Gethin remarks to Ffion, “It’s sad to see people are scared of change – if they knew you would be applying for the headship, they’d see things differently.”   Eileen asks Gethin if he is joining them;
"I thought that was a Sisterhood idea"
“I thought this was a Sisterhood idea,” he replies.
"You've got the legs for it!"
Eileen is sure they can find him a skirt at Maenan, and considers he has the legs for it.
"He's at school!"
Britt goes into Garry’s flat and demands where Chester is;  “At school,” replies Garry, “If he’s staying here, there are rules!”
Britt is looking at a house already . . .
She has picked up some house details from Tomos ac Ellis.
. . . but she does not look exactly sure
He comments, “I knew you’d do the right thing.   You would never split up the children, after the way you fought to keep you, me and Brandon together.   It will be all right, and don’t worry about his phone – I’ll find the money for that.”   Britt refuses this offer, as she does not want to be in his debt any more than she has to be.
A very Christmassy babygro
In the café, Debbie has a red and green elf outfit for Nicky, and reminds Vicky about his next course of jabs at the surgery.
"Oh, he's not getting any more of them!"
Vicky announces that she will not be taking him as he screamed so much last time.   Sheryl, sitting nearby, cannot resist the temptation to get involved;
"It's for his own good"
“It’s for his own good – he must have three sets or they won’t work.”   Vicky does not want to know.
"Come on then, let's get going"
Dai comes in to collect Cadno for the journey to the prison, and she tells him that Gemma suspects DJ is being bullied there.
"As long as they pay the invoice"
Mark passes Iolo’s van, and asks what he knows about the Awyr Iach scandal.   Iolo answers, “They just want an assessment of the water system – and I don’t care why, as long as they pay the invoice.”
"Dad's worried sick!"
Then Iolo sees Britt at the cashpoint, and tells her, “Dad’s worried sick – please think about what you’re doing.”
Britt is in a quandary
Britt explains she cannot let Chester stay with Garry, but Iolo replies that she cannot take Catrin and Aaron away from Siôn;  “Who knows what problems it may cause?   I don’t think Catrin would forgive you for putting Chester first.”
"I thought you were protesting"
DJ is surprised to see Cadno at visiting time;  “I thought you were protesting,” he says, but she considers this to be more important.   He tells Dai, “It’s not a holiday camp, despite what the papers say!”
"Everyone in the Deri heard about it"
Mark, having seen Britt’s troubled demeanour, goes to the chippy to make sure she is all right.   “Everyone knows, as Chester told Garry and Dani in the Deri,” he tells her.
"I can't win!"
Britt confesses, “I can’t win!   If I leave Siôn, it will break Catrin’s and Aaron’s hearts – if I don’t, Chester and Garry will never forgive me!”
"What do you want?"
Mark reminds her, “You’re thinking of everyone but yourself – what do you want?   You would have plenty of admirers if you wanted to start over.”
"I want the man I married back"
Britt insists that all she wants is the honest, decent, kind man she married.
"So it's easy then!"
“So it’s easy then!” concludes Mark.
"This tells you all about the jabs"
Sheryl, in the salon, sees Vicky passing outside and goes out with some paperwork about the immunisations.
Nicky is blissfully ignorant
“He could catch Meningitis, and that can kill a baby!   There’s no excuse.”
"Get out of my face!"
Vicky does not want any advice;  “Get out of my face!” she protests, “This is none of your business – it’s my choice!”
"You're not fit to have a many!"
Sheryl becomes more insistent;  “You’re not fit to have a baby!   Social Services should do us all a favour and take him from you!”
Cadno tells DJ that Bobi is asking for him each day,
Dai is concerned about DJ's wellbeing
and Dai looks concerned.   “What’s the matter?   Have I got two heads?” asks DJ, but Dai says that he is worried about him.
"I miss mucking-out the shed!"
DJ complains, “I just sit on my backside 23 hours a day – you’d never believe how much I miss mucking-out the shed!”
"Sing us that song about sheep, Taffy!"
The Irish prisoner calls out to DJ, “Sing that song about sheep again, Taffy!”
This incenses Dai who shouts back (in English), “What did you call my nephew?
"How would you like it if I called you 'Leprechaun'?"
How would you like it if I called you ‘Leprechaun’?”   The Irishman jumps up and walks towards Dai, but is restrained by a warder.
DJ tells them what it is all about
DJ is forced to admit that he is performing the song Bugeilio’r Gwenith Gwyn (Watching the White Wheat) in a competition tonight, and says he is in with a good chance.
The Irishman calls across , “My money’s on DJ to win tonight!”
"Some of the women got a free shopping trip!"
When the protesters return to the village, Megan is angry that some of the women who went with them on the bus simply used it as a free trip to town to go shopping.
They are still in fighting spirit
Eileen announces, “The fight is getting going!”   They retire to the Deri for a warming drink.
"Have you come to pack?"
Britt returns home to Y Felin;  Siôn asks if she has come to pack, but she  pleads,
"I want the old traditional Siôn back"
“All I want is things to be back to how they were, the old traditonal St Siôn, reliable and boring – but you’re none of those things any more, are you?”
"I won't let you down this time, I promise!"
Siôn replies, “I lost my way a bit, but if you want the old Siôn back, I’ll find him again.   I won’t let you down this time, I promise!”
Britt looks across at her family photos
Britt proposes that they see how things go over Christmas.
As Dai moans about the way Diane has been treating him and Jim, he feels a sudden pain;
"This prison coffee has gone straight through me!"
Nefi wen!” he exclaims, “This prison coffee has gone through me like a dose of salts!” and goes in search of the toilets.
DJ tells Cadno, “It’s not easy in here, but it’s not supposed to be.   I’m just glad it’s me in here and not you – so the children could not see you over Christmas.”
"You're a special person, do you know that?"
Cadno describes him as ‘a special person’, and he agrees, “One or two people have said that!”
Dai returns, still feeling uncomfortable, as if he goes out to the toilet they will not allow him back in, so he bids DJ farewell.
Dai is in a hurry to leave
“Come on,” Dai urges Cadno, “I haven’t got any incontinence pads!”
Debbie is incandescent with rage
Debbie and Mark march into the salon and confront Sheryl;  “Vicky’s been crying the last two hours, after you threatened to call Social Services!” Debbie snarls,
"I'll call for the men in white coats!"
“You know bringing up a child is hard – you sent your own son to Canada, and you weren’t accused of being a bad mother!   Come near Vicky again and I’ll call for the men in white coats!”
"You've gone too far this time!"
As they leave, Mark comments to Sheryl, “Maybe it’s the grief talking, but you’ve gone too far this time!”
Iolo talks about the prehistoric boiler
Iolo talks to the protesters and tells them, “The school boiler is like something out of the ark.   I can patch it up, but it will blow again!   It looks like the writing is on the wall.”
"It's bound to be up to something dodgy!"
Mark comes in and asks about the new company moving into the business units;  “If a company calls itself “Iach(healthy), it’s up to some dodgy business!   Pretending to be good for your health.”
"I fancy another sherry!"
Meanwhile Megan is getting through several sherries.
"Look at this message"
Chester comes in and shows Garry the message on his (old) phone from Siôn;
"You could benefit from this"
Garry advises, “If I were you, I’d consider it very carefully – you could benefit from this.”
By Meilyr's grave
Sheryl is by Meilyr’s grave in the cemetery;
"I wasn't there to save you!"
“I’m so sorry, Meilyr!   I wasn’t there to save you!” she sobs,
She leaves a toy
as she places a cuddly toy on the grave.
"Oh Chester, you're back!"
Britt is overjoyed when Chester comes back to Y Felin, accompanied by Garry.
"A boy should have a phone if he wants one!"
Siôn has changed his tune considerably;  “A boy should have a phone if he wants one!”
"We're all going to chapel at Christmas"
Britt considers that they should all go to the chapel at Christmas;  “Both sides need to make amends,” she instructs them, “This is going to be a special Christmas for all of us.”

In the middle of the night . . .
At 02:15 the next morning, Gethin enters the flat at Cysgod y Glyn;
. . . Gethin says he has been looking for prowlers . . .
Ffion gets out of bed to find out where he has been.   He tells her that he had a call that someone was prowling around the garage, but it was a false alarm, and that he had a large spanner to protect himself.   “Come back to bed,” says Ffion,
. . . but that is not the whole story
and Gethin smiles conspiratorially.
