As Meic prepares to go to New Year’s lunch at the Deri, Anita fusses over him and Darren forbids Gabriella from taking the camera with her.

“Half the village will be there,” says Meic, “And there’s no rush to tell people, is there?”

| Gethin hears that all the bags have gone |
Gethin is at Garry’s flat , and is told that, “The stock has all been passed on now, and it will be a long time before I handle another load – that was the silliest thing I ever did!”

Gwern is playing quietly as Gethin replies, “Look at all the trouble they caused!” and Garry corrects him, “All the trouble you caused. Just because they’re all cleared up doesn’t mean you can forget the debt.”

| "You're off your head!" |
Britt comes to visit Garry, inviting him and Gwern to lunch at the Deri, but Garry replies they are going to Gwyneth’s. “Since when do you care about her?” snarls Britt, adding, “You and her and Gwern playing happy families? You’re off your head!”
At CwmFM, Jinx tells Ffion that he will be five minutes, going over the playlist with Lowri.

Gethin asks Ffion if it will be awkward, him being at the Deri, but she does not mind.

| "I don't want to spoil their day" |
Meic tells Anita that he will simply thank people for helping him with the film, but will not say anything else – he does not want to spoil their day.

Anita notices a hole in his grey jumper, so insists he will have to wear the pink one instead.

The café is closed, and Debbie is chatting with Mark about old times, when Gabriella calls in with a Spanish CD for Ricky.

Mark tells her he has found a book by Gabriel García Márquez, which he will give to her later. When Darren has hurried her away to the Deri, Debbie asks, “Are you interested in Spanish, or her? Stop trying too hard!”

Jinx returns to Ffion and she is glad to have him for the rest of the day; Gethin says he has been summoned to help out at the soup kitchen.

| Plotting a suitable revenge on Eifion . . . |
At the Deri, Gabriella and Darren seem to be constantly glowering at each other, and on the sofa, Angela, Sioned, Eileen and Cadno are planning some sort of revenge on Eifion, as he has lied to them all at some point.

Sioned suggests that she pose as a Western Post reporter, and ring Eifion to arrange a photo shoot at the Scarlet’s ground. Cadno says he ought to be told to bring his full kit, so he can be photographed with international stars.

Angela confirms, “He’d fall for that – he’s so full of himself!”

Mark brings the book, rather inopportunely entitled Chronicles of a Death Foretold, for Gabriella, and it is hurriedly hidden away.

As Meic slips out to the toilet, Anita insists, “The sooner people find out, the better – I can’t take much more of this!”

Garry is doing the washing-up at Gwyneth’s, and she remarks, “I never thought a pair of Marigolds would look so good on you! Gwern and I enjoy having a maid around the place.”

Gwern is busy colouring a beach pink, and Garry suggests they should go for a holiday, abroad, the three of them.

| "You can't be serious?" |
Gwyneth is sceptical; “One of us would kill the other before we reached customs!”

When Garry takes across a little New Year’s present for Gwern, he replies, “Thanks, Dad!”
In the Deri, Britt welcomes all the customers and wishes them a Happy New Year, then Meic stands up.

“As we are going through the Parish notices, thank you to everyone for helping with my film project. I’m very lucky to have you all, and lucky to have Cwmderi. I can’t imagine living anywhere else – apart from Anglesey.”

| . . . but then Darren insists on having his say |
Then Darren gets up, telling the listeners, “Dad has something else to say, which is not easy for him. Dad doesn’t have much time left to live – he has been diagnosed with cancer. Things don’t look good, but Dad’s a fighter; with everyone’s help and support, he can fight on for a while.”

The Deri goes silent while all the customers look at each other; Angela says quietly, “I think we should forget about paying Eifion back, under the circumstances.”

As Meic leaves, he furiously tells Darren, “What did you think you were doing? That was my right, not yours! You have no idea what it feels like to know you are dying – it was nice to be able to forget about it sometimes, but that’s not possible any more, is it? I lost the only normal thing I had in my life because of your stupidity!”

Debbie tells Gabriella, “I thought it was you who’d spoil his last few weeks.” Gabriella remarks to Darren that he had better go back to Canada, but he insists he is not going anywhere.

Back in the café, Debbie shares with Angela that only five months ago she and Meic were starting a relationship, now she hardly ever sees him. Darren is like a sentinel, and Gabriella comes between Meic and everyone else.

Britt is removing the advertising board outside the Deri, and Garry is incredulous; “He said that right in the middle of the meal? What’s wrong with the bloke, breaking news like that?”

He then continues to question Britt, “Did you know Meic was dying when you bid against him and stopped him getting what he wanted?”

Britt is of the opinion that they did Meic and Anita a favour.

As Meic had feared, visitors start arriving to commiserate with him, first Eileen, then Mark, apologising for the incident with that book.

Anita is angry with Darren, “See what you’ve done now? Everyone is hovering about like at a funeral!” She tells Gabriella, “Those two have known him for years, and have more right to his time than you have!”

As his visitors finally leave, Meic sits forlornly in his chair, and Darren is in tears.
