2 October 2015

Anita is doing some polishing
Anita polishes the sideboard, looking thoughtfully at the photo of Meic
She clutches the urn
and the urn containing his ashes.
Diane is looking at a photo of herself and Dai when Mark arrives, wanting to accompany her to Bethania,
"Anita doesn't want me there"
but she says she has been asked by Anita not to go.   “And you’re going to listen to her?” demands Mark,
"Go and get changed"
“You thought the world of Meic – Anita is not the only one who has lost him.   Go and get changed, and I’ll make a cup of tea.”
Dai is back at APD
Dai quietly arrives at APD, and hangs the bag containing his suit on a step-ladder.
"Are you serious?"
Kelly calls Anita, who appears with what Kelly considers to be an unsuitable hat;  “Are you serious?   This is Cwmderi, not Paris!” she says, in her characteristic mix of languages.
"You have to tell the truth at some point"
Then Kelly warns Anita, “You have to tell the truth at some point.   I’ve had enough of people slagging you off – pick a name – any name.   Diane has suffered enough, and you’ve made your point!”
Anita however insists that Diane has not suffered half as much as she has;
"I don't care two hoots!"
“People can say what they like – I don’t care two hoots!   I’m going to remember Meic.”   So saying, she picks up the urn and they leave for the chapel.
Gwynfor strides towards Bethania
Most of the villagers are heading in the same direction, including Gwynfor in his suit.   Inside, Megan welcomes Diane and hopes she will not cause trouble;
"We don't want any arguments"
“We don’t want arguments in God’s house,” she warns.   Mark maintains that it should be Anita she is telling.
The organist plays suitable sombre music
The organ is quietly playing “I will send an angel” as Dai arrives, and sits on the opposite side to Diane.   Megan remarks to him shat she was afraid she would have to give the eulogy, but Dai retorts, “You were afraid – or hoped?”
Anita arrives, and is disappointed to see Diane there;  “What’s she doing here?   She looks awful!”
Siôn welcomes the congregation
Siôn begins the service, “Dear friends, we will start with one of Meic’s favourite Bible passages.   He was very fond of Job – strange, as Meic was not renowned for his patience.”
The Bible's absence amuses Garry . . .
Then he hesitates;  “Forgive me – the Bible seems to have gone walkabout.”   He finds a book on the shelf,
. . . and what Siôn stumbles upon . . .
and on investigation discovers it is the one containing the gun.   Seriously uncomfortable, he announces, “Instead let’s sing Dros Gymu’n Gwlad to the tune Finlandia.”
. . . causes Garry some mirth
As the congregation rise, Garry is grinning broadly at Siôn’s discomfiture.
Later, as Megan tells the gathering, “The village will never be the same without Meic – may he rest in peace,”
That is where it was – just under there
Siôn pulls out the book again and looks at the gun.
"Meic would have forgiven me"
Then it is Dai’s turn to speak;  “I know many of you think I have no right to stand in front of you, but my conscience is clear, because I know that Meic would have forgiven me for what happened recently.   That’s what he was like – forgiving and kind;  he came down from Anglesey and made his home here in Cwmderi with Anita.   One of the best friends I ever had.
"I miss him terribly"
I miss him terribly, and will always regret that I have not been such a good friend to him during these last few days.”
Anita's conscience gets the better of her . . .
Anita has become progressively more upset as he was speaking, and stands up, saying, “Dai, stop please!   You were a loyal friend to him!   I lied to you, you didn’t sleep with me that night!”
. . . and shocks the listeners
As the congregation look at each other in incredulity,
This is all getting out of control
Siôn sits with his head in his hands.
"I was wrong to blame you!"
Anita turns to Diane;  “Nothing happened!   I was wrong to blame you, as Meic put you in an impossible situation.   I’m sorry, I understand that now!”   Dai protests that she has ruined his life, but she admits, “It was my fault that Meic went to Patagonia in the first place – I forced Mei to leave Cwmderi – I couldn’t cope with his illness – it’s all my fault!”
Siôn appears to be "out of it" . . .
Megan urges Siôn to do something, but as he seems incapable of movement,
. . . so Megan takes charge
she announces that the villagers should all make their way out of the chapel.
Anita begs for forgiveness
Anita begs Diane for forgiveness, but receives the reply, “You’ve gone too far this time, grief or not!” and she leaves with Mark.
"I can't believe it was all lies!"
In the road outside, Gwyneth cannot believe that the story was all lies.
Diane just wants to get home
Diane is in a hurry to get home, and shrugs her shoulders when Dai asks if he can come with her.
"I didn't mean in front of everyone!"
As they head back to number 10, Kelly says, “I know I asked that you tell the truth – but not in front of everyone!”
"Forgive our trespasses"
Inside Bethania, Siôn is sitting in the same position, whispering, “Forgive us our trespasses,” when he is rudely disturbed by Garry.
"Well, that was fun!"
“Well, that was fun!   Your face when you saw the gun!   Siôn, you crack me up – when are you going to learn?   You asked me to move the gun, and I did – from the cupboard to the Deacon’s seat.”
"Don't try to be clever with me!"
Siôn warns Garry, “Don’t try to be clever with me!” but Garry reminds him that he is clever, and that Siôn is the idiot, who is trying to play with the big boys, but should not, as he will always end up the loser.
“What if Megan had found it?   She would have called the police,” Siôn tells him,
"My fingerprints are not on the gun"
but Garry argues that his fingerprints are not on the gun.
"You must be looking forward to it"
Meanwhile at the Deri, a rather subdued wake is going on;  Gaynor remarks to Sheryl, “You’re blooming, and must be looking forward to it – it’s an exciting time.”   Sheryl agrees that there are only a few weeks to go.   Gaynor continues, “I was going to buy you a present – is there anything you need?”
"You're being very civil"
Sheryl is surprised, and says, “You’re being very civil about this.”
"You're the one who has to live with him now!"
“I should be thanking you – now Im free to do anything I want,” beams Gaynor, “You’re the one who has to live with him now!   I bet he loves living with you . . . for now!   You’ll understand one day.”
"Right, we're going home, Hywel!"
When Hywel returns from the gent’s, Sheryl insists that they go home immediately, as she is not feeling well.
"I'm trying my best!"
Colin describes Gaynor as “naughty,” and she replies, “I’m trying my best!”
"Our dear friend Meic!"
Megan calls for attention, and they drink a toast to, “Our dear friend Meic.”
"She fooled all of us"
As they arrive home at Bryntirion, Dai says, “She fooled all of us – the cuckoo in the nest – I was so drunk – I’ll tell you one thing, I’m never drinking again!”   As Diane pours herself a large one, he changes his mind;  “I’ll have a small one with you.”
"Not half as much as I've missed you!"
She admits that he has suffered enough and that she has missed him;  “Not half as much as I’ve missed you!” Dai insists.
They are reconciled again
He asks if she will ever be able to forgive Anita for what she has done.
After some thought, she replies, “One day . . . maybe . . . I’m afraid.”
"Don't waste your energy on Diane"
Kelly admonishes Anita for wasting all her energy thinking about Diane, when she should be concentrating on herself and remembering Meic.
"We should scatter Meic's ashes"
Gabriela suggests that the best way to move on is to scatter Meic’s ashes, and Anita agrees they will do so as soon as possible.
"I can understand the appeal"
At Bethania, as Garry climbs to the pulpit, he tells Siôn, “I can understand the appeal, especially for someone like you.
"The flock below, hanging on your every word"
“The flock below, hanging on your every word – if only they knew!”
"I should have let you die!"
Siôn looks up at him;  “I should have let you die when I had the chance.   You have no idea how close you came to dying in the garage!   When I saw you under the van, I hesitated – more than that – I decided not to call for help.   If Dani had not arrived when she did, I would have left you to die.
"You came this close!"
“You came this close – and I doubt if you would have had a memorial service.
“Do you know what?   I regret it – my life would have been so much easier without you!”
"It's a shame you missed your chance"
Garry comes down the other steps;  “Well, it’s a shame you missed your chance, it’s a shame you’re such a cowardly good-for-nothing!   You won’t get another chance!”
Garry shows no fear whatsoever
“Don’t be so sure!” shouts Siôn, as he grabs the gun and points it at Garry’s head.   Garry calmly brushes it aside, and Siôn collapses in tears on the chair.
"There's no escape now!"
Garry impresses upon him, “Siôn, from now on I’m going to be keeping a close eye on you.   There’s no escape now!”
Poor old Siôn is in a terrified state
As Garry strides out of the chapel, Siôn cowers by the pulpit.
