2 April 2015

Angela is trying to get Deri Draenog back to Penrhewl
Angela calls at the café to see if Debbie has seen Cadno, as she wants to give back the hedgehog;  Debbie then asks Gwyneth for her opinion on changing the café’s name back to “Caffi Meic”.
Debbie gets a favourable reception
When told Gwyneth thinks it a lovely idea, Debbie confesses she was afraid people would think it a stupid idea.   “I’ll pay you to make a banner,” she says, but urges Gwyneth not to say anything.
"Try this – and be honest"
Wiliam invites Iolo to taste the curry he is making;  “Be honest, we have to be honest about things,” he says, and Iolo is awkward and non-committal about the curry.
Colin and Gethin welcome a free meal
Wiliam does not have a chance to find out what is troubling him, as Colin and Gethin appear, and are pleased that someone is cooking a meal for them.
“Posh – eating at the table!” remarks Gethin, while Colin’s comment is, “It always tastes better when it’s free!”
"The house seems empty now"
Anita calls at the café for some cake, and tells Debbie that the bed and oxygen tank have been taken away;  “It’s so empty there now, and the evenings are the worst,” she says.   Debbie has something to tell her about changing the name of the café, but when Llinos comes in, asking for a black coffee, Anita leaves.
Gemma is pleased to see him
Gemma arrives at the Deri, where DJ is waiting for her, and he kisses her before going to the bar to get her a pint.
"Looks like a date!"
Gwyneth has just arrived and tells him, “You in a suit, her with lipstick – looks like a date!   Where are you taking her?”   DJ tells her they are having a meal at Cwm Delhi.
Hywel returns the iPad
Hywel visits Anita, returning the iPad, from which he has deleted everything except Meic’s film;  “I’ll show you how to save it,” he tells her, but she insists she wants to be rid of it all.
Hywel takes exception to Anita's description of Sheryl
When he argues, she shouts, “Don’t you have enough on your plate with that pregnant floozie, without sticking your nose in?”
“If that’s your attitude, stuff you!” replies Hywel and storms out.
Sheryl straightens Angela's hair
Angela is having her hair done in the salon, where Sheryl laments that she does not have the energy to go out in the evenings, when Hywel arrives and asks Sheryl if she fancies going to Cwm Delhi tonight.   She refuses, so they settle on a takeaway instead.
The hedgehog comes out of Angela's bag
Angela looks in her handbag for a £10 note and takes out the hedgehog;
That Hywel is all over her today
“Deri Draenog!” exclaims Sheryl, “Wil brought him home when he was at nursery!”
Deri Draenog in the salon
Angela takes a photo of the hedgehog with Sheryl, wielding her hair straighteners.
Then the phone rings, and Sheryl puts down the appliance to take the call;
His paw is smouldering
Angela suddenly notices smoke, coming from the hedgehog’s paw, where the straighteners have scorched it.
They tuck in to their meal
At number 7, the meal is served, and Wiliam tells Gethin and Colin he is sorry if things have been awkward lately.
"You two snogging on the sofa?"
“You mean you and Iolo snogging on the sofa?” asks Colin, and asks Gethin to pass the chutney.
Whoops!   Chutney everywhere
Not looking what he is doing, Colin drops it, making a mess of the tablecloth and peppermill.   Iolo panics, then tries, with difficulty, to control himself.
Anita wastes no time in erupting again
Debbie goes to Anita’s, and as soon as she mentions the café, Anita starts again;  “As soon as you got your hands on it, and Meic disappears, you want to change everything!   What’s it going to be – Caffi Debs?”
When Debbie tells her it is reverting to “Caffi Meic,”
Even the proposed name causes anger
Anita is still angry;  “You’re making a big show of grieving for a man who’s not even dead?”
"I want people to remember him"
“I want people to remember him and how much he did for the village,” insists Debbie,
"While I'm alone here"
but Anita accuses her of enjoying having the café while she is alone there.   “Well, you’re the one getting rid of all his stuff and leaving an empty house,” retaliates Debbie, “There’s nothing of Meic left now.   I want to do something that reminds people of Meic – they’ll see his name every day and never forget, but you’ve got rid of him already.”
So far, so good, for this date
At Cwm Delhi, the meal is served, and DJ asks Gemma which European country she would like to live in;  when she replies, “Ireland,” he says he will take her there any time.
Gwyneth calls in for a takeaway
Then in comes Gwyneth for a takeaway, and Gemma assumes she is following her.
Sheryl must be getting tired of Hywel's shows of affection
Next through the door are Sheryl and Hywel;  again Hywel ostentatiously hugs Sheryl, saying, “Just giving my family a cuddle.”
"I'd hide the knives if I were him!"
When he sees Gemma and DJ, he comments, “I’d hide the knives if I were him!”
Anita maintains Debbie is to blame for everything
Anita is still blaming Debbie;  “You sent him away, you found Gabriella, and if it weren’t for you, he would still need me, and all his stuff.   I want him with me!”
"And I want him with me!"
“And so do I,” agrees Debbie, “He didn’t want to be nursed here, with people feeling sorry for him.”
"How's the evening going?"
Gemma has popped upstairs to the toilet, so when Gwyneth has been given her takeaway, she asks DJ how the evening is going.   “Do you want to know whether I’m staying over?” he jokes.
Suspicious Gemma wants to know what Gwyneth said
But then Gemma returns, and asks DJ, “She said something, didn’t she?   Did she warn you that I’d stick a knife in you, like Ed, Dani and my mother?”
This puts a dampener on DJ's evening
This rather puts DJ off;  he tells Gemma that Gwyneth did not say anything and admits that he has had a fun evening, but, “I’d rather have a night out with the boys.”
Colin enquires about technical details . . .
Over the meal table, Colin is rather puzzled;  “You’ve got a daughter, but you’re gay, and the mother is gay.   Well how . . .?   Did you just close your eyes and . . .?”
. . . and Wiliam elucidates him
Wiliam quite straightforwardly explains he was the sperm donor, and the laboratory did the rest.   Colin reaches the conclusion, “Oh – you missed the best bit, then!”
Gethin does his best to change the subject, suggesting a game of twister, but Iolo does not want to get involved with that, so Gethin and Colin go off to the Deri for a pint.
Iolo begins his confession
Wiliam insists that Iolo should see the doctor about his OCD, but Iolo says it is not that but, “I knocked over someone in the car a long time ago;  he was seriously hurt and in a wheelchair, but he’s better now.   It was Gethin.”
Wiliam remarks that they obviously understand each other now, but Iolo continues, “I drove off and left him lying there.”
"Sit down and listen to me"
As Wiliam protests, “You can’t tell me this,” Iolo pleads with him to listen.   “The case went to court, but not against me.   Some other guy took the blame and he’s now in jail.”
Wiliam is about to jump up and leave
Wiliam gets up, takes his coat and leaves, saying, “I’m going for a drink!”
Hostilities appear to have cooled
Anita and Debbie are now drinking tea together;  “I was jealous of you - younger and full of life.   He had a lot of fun with you,” says Anita.
"We chose a good man"
Debbie reminds her, “But he came back to you.   I think we chose a good man, and he’s trying to avoid hurting us.   We should remember him, and feel proud we knew him.”
In the Deri Colin remarks that Wiliam is a nice guy;  “But Iolo will spoil everything if he doesn’t pull himself together,” adds Gethin.
"Whisky!" he says, to their surprise
Then Wiliam walks in and orders a whisky;  Colin and Gethin look at each other.
"What did you tell him, then?"
Gemma also arrives and stands by Gwyneth at the bar;  “What did you tell him?”   Gwyneth admits she was tempted, but did not say anything.   Gemma accuses her of being jealous and wanting to spoil her date.   “No, I was worried about DJ – everyone who gets close to you gets hurt!”
"I want a drink with my friend"
Gemma tells her, “I did have a date, but that’s over, so I want a drink with my friend,” and sits down with her.
"Wiliam!" says Iolo
Iolo comes into the Deri, and says, “Wiliam!”
"I don't want to see you again!"
Wiliam replies,“How obvious do I need to make it?   You’re not the person I thought you were.   I’m leaving, and don’t follow me because – I’m being honest now – I don’t want to see you again!”
He turns and leaves, as Iolo stands, distraught, and Gethin and Colin watch.

31 March 2015

Dani acts the dutiful wife . . .
Dani texts Garry, asking what he wants for dinner, than his iPad sounds its message tone;  when Dani looks, there is a message from Sioned,
. . . but when she sees the message from Sioned . . .
“We have to talk about the future.”
. . . she wants to know what is going on
She looks worried.
At APD, Jim is eagerly watching the progress of the online auction, which ends at lunchtime;  “There are a lot of people bidding – it might make £200!”
Dai has a slight problem with Jury Service
Meanwhile Dai finds a letter in his pocket which he had forgotten, summoning him to Jury Service, but he is due to go to the Caribbean.   Apparently he has already postponed his Jury Service twice, which is the maximum, but he gets no sympathy from Jim, who simply laughs at his predicament.
They are watching the auction when Diane's hat arrives
Mark delivers a parcel, containing Diane’s sunhat for the holiday, then Ed comes in for a halogen bulb.
"I don't know where Sioned went"
Dai remarks to him that he saw Sioned, all dressed up, going somewhere, and asks Ed where she was going, but Ed knows nothing of her whereabouts.
A snap for Bobi's album
Jim finds the toy hedgehog in his pocket, and poses with a somewhat doleful Dai, while Diane photographs them.   Dai grumbles that children should do their own homework.
Mark is very apologetic . . .
Mark’s next delivery is at Anita’s, where he apologises, but has a registered letter addressed to Meic.   Anita erupts with rage;
. . . but he still gets a mouthful from Anita
“He’s not here and I don’t know his address – stuff your letter!”   Kelly is approaching and admonishes Anita;  “Half the village can hear you!” ushers her inside
Kelly signs for the letter
and signs for the letter.
"You can't let these little things upset you!"
She tells Anita, “You can’t let these little things upset you.   Meic’s post will be coming here for ages.”   This does nothing to calm Anita;
"I'm fed up with it all!"
“I’m fed up with people treating me with kid gloves and expressing sympathy!   They all ask about Meic – it’s as if I have disappeared altogether.”
She then jumps up and starts removing things from the cupboard;  Despite Kelly trying to dissuade her, she insists,
"What's the point of keeping his stuff?"
“Everything reminds me of him – I don’t want reminding of him, because he’s not coming back!   What’s the point of keeping all his stuff?”
Jim watches the price rise inexorably
As Diane tries on her new hat, Eileen comes into APD;  Jim, still intently watching the auction, predicts they are going to make a fortune.   Diane comments, “You should take Eileen on holiday, as it’s nearly her birthday,” but it is lost on Jim, who is too busy watching the screen to take any notice.
"Right, I think that's everything"
By now, Anita has gathered together all Meic’s clothes and piled them on the bed,
"Don't you want to keep this – it was Meic's favourite?
insisting that they all go to Megan’s charity shop, telling Kelly, “I feel surrounded by all this stuff –
Anita frantically tries to pull the bed apart
“and I want to get rid of this bed!”
Kelly sits her down and tries to calm her
Kelly sits her down and agrees to phone to have the bed collected, and then to help take everything over to Megan’s shop.
The excitement grows to fever pitch in the last few seconds of the auction;  Diane counts down,
Rather a strange closing figure – £497.86
“Three, two, one,” then the screen appears which informs them they have made £497.86,
They look pleased with the result, and head for the Deri . . .
and they all resolve to go off to the Deri to celebrate, but Dai says he will join them in a minute.
. . . but Dai does an internet search
First he conducts a search on the “Chwilota” search engine:  “How to get out of jury service.”
Dani tells Ed of her fears
As Ed is fitting the halogen bulb in his table lamp, Dani arrives and voices her fears;  “I’m afraid Sioned is chasing after Garry,” she tells him, “Can you keep her under control?”
"Are you sure?"
Ed cannot believe this,
It might be construed as suspicious
but Dani shows him the messages between them on the iPad, and says she saw them together last night.
Ed wants to "have it out" with Sioned . . .
He is forced to admit that things look suspicious, and wants to confront Sioned immediately, but Dani says that they need evidence.
"We must have conclusive proof"
She has an idea that Garry financed Sioned’s purchase of the taxi business, but they must find proof before saying anything.
"I can't accept this without Meic's agreement"
Megan at first refuses to accept the clothes, on the grounds that Meic has not given his permission for them to be sold.   Then, in the face of Kelly’s intransigence, she offers to put them to one side, in case Anita reconsiders, but Anita is emphatic that she wants to be rid of it all.   She also takes off her locket and adds that to all the other items.
"A letter from the hospital and a doctor's note?"
At the Deri, while the others celebrate, Dai is talking (in English) on his phone;  “Oh, I need a letter from the hospital and a doctor’s note?   Right, I’ll look into it.”   Diane has gone to get another bottle of wine when Jim rejoins Eileen and Jim.
"You really have to tell her, Dai!"
“You’ll really have to tell her,” urges Eileen, and Dai is disgusted that Jim has told her.   “Husbands and wives usually tell each other things,” Eileen informs him.
An uneasy peace is starting to descend . . .
Kelly has phoned to arrange collection of all the medical stuff tomorrow;
. . . when Mark appears, and it all kicks off again
then Mark arrives with the bag and box he says he rescued from Megan’s shop.   Predictably, Anita is furious;  “Rescued?   If I wanted it, I wouldn’t have taken it there in the first place!”
"You could sell all the stuff online"
Mark argues that Jim and Dai made a small fortune online, and she could make some money selling Meic’s stuff, but she again rants, “Money?   I sorted this once –
"I don't want it in the house!"
“I don’t care what you do with it, but I don’t want it in the house!   Take it away!”
Kelly grabs a bag and marches out, urging Mark, in what hardly sounds like Welsh, “Come on, man, shift!”
Mark finds the video camera . . .
They take it all to Maes-y-deri,
. . . containing meic's video . . .
where Mark finds the film which Meic recorded on the camera.
. . . so he takes out the SD card . . .
He takes out the SD card and puts it in an envelope marked, “Anita,”
. . . and it, together with the locket, go into an envelope
with Kelly adding the locket.
Back home at Bryntirion, Diane wants Dai to get the cases down from the loft, so she can start packing.
Diane is off to get their holiday dollars tomorrow
She tries to grab Dai’s wallet from his pocket, and he takes pains to make sure she does not see the letter.   She wants his credit card so she can go to town tomorrow to pick up some dollars for their holiday.
She will have to be told some time, Dai
“Caribbean, here we come!” she enthuses, but Dai simply looks glum.
