At Penrhewl, Gemma and Cadno have prepared the party, and as they hear someone coming in, they shout, “Welcome home!”

which surprises Dai. He spins them a tale about DJ being kept in for a further week, as he had been a ‘naughty boy’.

Then in comes DJ; “I thought I could smell sausage rolls!” he says.

| Gemma embraces him; Cadno is stony-faced |
Gemma dashes forward to embrace him, while Cadno shows her disapproval.

Eifion is surprised to see Jim in the Deri, wearing a posh suit and bow tie; Eileen has persuaded him to attend a ‘black tie’ event. Eifion was under the impression that they were coming to Angela’s for the evening,

but Jim points out they have spent £60 on the tickets.
Eifion protests that he has got champagne in; Jim remarks that he must have got it cheap from the supermarket, near its sell-by date.

“I’m trying to make things perfect for Angela, because there’s no telling . . .” Then he realises what he has said, and tries to slink away.
“We’d better go with him,” Eileen says, “It sounds like this is important!”

Jim tries to drink as much as possible of his pint before he has to go.

Vicky comes in and asks Ed to take her to Swansea; when he learns that she is meeting Dewi again, he replies that he is busy.

She phones Dewi to advise him that she is unable to get a taxi.

| Dai records the happy occasion . . . |
At Penrhewl, Dai takes a photo of DJ, back in his proper surroundings;

“You’re like Kanye West, in Diane’s magazines, with all these women buzzing round you like bees round a honeypot!” he comments.

When he tells them that Diane has caught a bug, Cadno is glad she has not come; “Don’t want my farmhand missing more work!” she says. DJ suspects she has a list of jobs for him to do,

and sure enough, she hands it to him, with the instruction, “There’s one specific job – disinfect the shed, ready for lambing.”
Gemma is sure that can wait until the morning, but Cadno replies, “He must be desperate to get stuck in after being on holiday for so long!”

Dai hands Cadno a compilation CD of Christmas music which Jason has made; she is highly delighted to find it begins with ‘Jailhouse Rock’,

| DJ and Gemma do not agree |
but DJ and Gemma do not share her amusement.

| Eileen is very shocked |
Eileen and Jim are round at Angela’s, and ask Eifion how long he has known; “She could drop dead, just like that?” says Eileen. As Angela comes in, he warns them not to say anything,

but as soon as Eileen sees her, she wails, “Oh, Angela!”

Eifion admits that it slipped out, and Angela is furious.
Eileen urges her not to get upset, and Angela improvises, “I’ve never felt better, and that’s a reason to celebrate!” to explain the two bottles she has brought home.
Eifion thinks this an opportune moment to produce the tickets to Las Vegas; “We’re flying out in a fortnight, the three of us; we’re getting married in a five star hotel!” he announces.

Angela, jubilant at getting what she wanted, tries to suitably tone down her exuberance.

In the Deri, Ed is pleased that he has kept Vicky and Dewi apart, but then Dewi walks through the door, and call Ed, “Ted.”
He goes over to Vicky and asks if they can have a ‘normal’ date tonight;

then turning to Ed, he advises, “I’m not comfortable using the agency any more – I want you to take my name off the books!” Ed has a call for a taxi, so cannot keep his eye on them any longer.

At Penrhewl, a game of cards in in progress; Dai comments, “This is a good game – you should go to prison more often!” Cadno asks if he learned anything else in there, like sewing or woodwork.

Gemma interrupts, “I’m sure it wasn’t all fun and games in there!” and DJ confirms they do not know the half of it. Dai hopes that he will not do anything so stupid again,

but Cadno seems keen to forget the whole thing. Dai adds that DJ’s boss kept his job open for him.

“She didn’t have much choice under the circumstances!” insists Gemma, “I think you should show more appreciation after all he has done for you!

“You have no shame – you should tell the truth instead of making DJ look an idiot!”
Cadno is forced to sheepishly admit that she bought the gun, not DJ;

Dai is absolutely outraged.

| "I'd rather be with you" |
Dewi tells Vicky that his ex is out skiing somewhere, but that he would rather be here. Vicky does not understand why he uses the agency, as women would be queueing up to go out with him; he admits, “I don’t want the hassle, I just want a girl on my arm – people trust you more if you have company.

“You’re different – you made want to consider emotional hassle!”

| "What circumstances?" |
Courtney arrives and is surprised to find a party; Jim blurts out, “We should welcome every opportunity under the circumstances,” then when Courtney looks puzzled, Angela has to bluff that he meant Eifion spending loads of money,

and shows her the tickets.

Dai rages against DJ, “You won’t be able to go to New Zealand for the rugby, now you have a record!” Cadno tries to put a stop to the ill-feeling, but Dai responds, “That would suit you, wouldn’t it?

“You should have shouldered your own responsibility – and that’s what everyone else will think too!”
DJ warns him that this must be kept quiet, or he could end up in prison again for perjury. Dai storms out.

Cadno accuses Gemma of organising the party for this very reason. DJ springs to Gemma’s defence, adding that he has not slept for two months, worrying what would happen to him, and keeping on the right side of every Tom, Dick and Harry.

“It was a horrible experience – and I did it for you!” he tells Cadno.

| "She's causing trouble like she always does!" |
Cadno is by no means quietened, but rages, “Spreading stories about him being bullied, then arranging this party, just because you fancy him. She’s causing trouble like she alway does! Go to hell!”

As Gemma gets up to go, DJ demands, “What’s wrong with you? Now you have your farmhand back! I’ve been such a fool!”

Ed is back at the Deri, by the bar, “Like an annoying fly!” says Vicky.

“I’m hoping if we become serious, you won’t have to do that job any more,” Dewi tells her, “I’ve not felt like this about anyone since . . .never!” She protests that she cannot afford to stop working.

At this moment, DJ comes into the Deri, and is welcomed by Gwynfor, who shouts, “It’s the birdman of Alcatraz!”
Courtney leaves the house again,

and Angela insists she does not want her to know; Jim warns her, “Someone is bound to put their foot in it! My mouth is big enough!”

| "Well, Jim, you'll have to stop yourself!" |
Angela snarls that he will just have to stop himself; “I don’t want her worry herself sick, when there’s nothing she can do to stop it.” Eileen assures that they are all here to support her.

Ed is still spying, so Dewi says he will go and fetch the car, giving Vicky his credit card to pay the bill;

“The PIN is easy to remember,” he says, “3333 – then you can keep the card, in case you’re ever short. Just a little something in case you ever get into trouble.”

As she goes to the bar to pay, she remarks to Ed, “I thought you were busy!”

He then has a call for a fare to Cardiff, and reluctantly leaves.

Gemma and DJ are in the Deri flat; she assures him, “It will pass – waiting for someone to tell you when to get up, when to eat and go to bed. That’s how I felt when I left the unit.”

DJ is glad to talk to someone who understands.
“It’s a new year and everyone is ready for a fresh start,” Gemma says,

“I’m starting to wonder about life away from this village – would you miss me?”

| "I don't know what I would have done without you!" |
DJ assures her that he does not know what he would have done without her these last few months. She adds, “If you want to escape, the door’s always open for you here.”
As the sounds of Big Ben chiming midnight can be heard in the background, with the associated cheering and fireworks,

DJ concludes, “I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” and they kiss.

Meanwhile, Cadno is dejectedly clearing up after the party;

with tears on her cheeks, she whispers, “Happy New Year!”
