"All I'm getting is a bad back"
Dai delivers another load of black bags to Megan;  “You’ll be rewarded in heaven,” she tells him, but he complains that the only reward he has is back pain.   Jim passes and comments upon Dai not being at work;
"I think I'll take a holiday!"
“I’m the one who deserves some time off – I think I’ll take a holiday!”
"It's my 50th coming up"
Eileen confides to Megan that she hopes this means a special holiday;  after all, she is 50 in a few weeks.
"What are you going to use the £10,000 for, then?"
In the café, Angela tells Siôn, “A little bird told me someone has been very generous to you.”   Siôn emphasises that this is for the Deri, not for him personally, but Dai recommends building an extension to the Deri;  “APD will quote you a very fair price!”
Elliw finds it difficult to work
Siôn is keen to change the subject to rugby, and Dai shows the footage of the last match he has captured on his phone.   Trying to work at another table is Elliw Bevan,
Ffion passes and spots her in the café
and Ffion passing outside notices her.   “Wouldn’t it be easier at home?” she asks,
"Gethin's teething"
but baby Gethin is teething, and his crying makes work impossible.   Initially reluctant to get involved, Ffion soon agrees to look over her notes for the work set by Miss Allen
"I'm going to drop the subject!"
Soon, Elliw comes to the conclusion that she cannot do it;  “I’m going to drop the subject,” – the noise in the café is not helping.   Ffion tries to encourage her, but she says, “It’s no use, nobody will give me a job now I have a baby.   I’m useless!   Please can we go to your flat?”
"Come over tonight, at 6 o'clock"
Iolo has just arrived home in his plumber’s van, when Wiliam appears, inviting him to a gig in Swansea.   He is not keen, then Britt comes over and invites them to Y Felin for a meal, and will not take no for an answer.
"Is she always like that?"
“Is she always like that?” asks Wiliam, as soon as she is gone, and Iolo replies, “You haven’t met Dad yet!”
"Fancy one of Dai's jumpers?"
Jinx takes Arwen to Megan’s shop, where he finds an old Tiger annual, which he buys, and Jim sorts through some of Dai’s cast-offs, before discovering the tea-card album.
"These things can be worth a lot of money!"
“I used to collect these,” he tells Jinx, who informs him that such things can be worth a lot of money.
Megan points out that there is one missing, number 37, “Everest”.   Jim is certain he used to have that one, and hurries home to try and find his collection.
He shakes the books, hoping a card will fall out
Eileen comes home to find Jim sifting through piles of books, as he used to employ the tea-cards as bookmarks.
Eileen broaches the subject of holidays
She raises the subject of a holiday, but is disappointed that Jim was only pulling Dai’s leg;  “We’re too busy to go on holiday!”
"Number 10's no good, I want 37!"
Eileen manages to find a card, but he says, “Number 10? – I’m looking for number 37!”
Jinx is displeased to find Elliw there
As Ffion explains to Elliw that Miss Allen may give her extra time to complete her work, Jinx returns with Arwen.   Predictably he is not pleased to see the girl there;
"Gaynor warned you about getting too involved!"
“What’s she doing here?   Are you sane?   You’ve brought a pupil to our home.   Gaynor warned you about getting too involved!”
"Sorry, Elliw, you can't come over here again!"
He then tells Elliw that she could not come there again,
She leaves, feeling rejected
and she apologetically leaves.
Although Britt is eager for Wiliam’s visit, Siôn is not;
I'm not happy, having a police officer in the house"
“I’m not happy, having a police officer in the house!”
When Wiliam is helping Britt in the kitchen, Iolo asks, “You don’t mind me bringing him over, do you?”   Siôn replies that he seems a nice bloke.
"Have you got any old books here?"
Jim’s next port of call is Angela’s, where she tells him some of the books he used to read to Courtney are up in her room, so he goes to look.
"He's forgotten my birthday"
Eileen tells her daughter that he has forgotten her birthday,
Angela ought to know Jim better than that
but Angela rather naïvely suggests that Jim may be planning something.
Eileen complains that Dai and Diane are going to the Caribbean, “But I’ll just get a meal – cooked by me.”
"That's no good – the Pyramids!"
Jim comes down with more books, and having only found a card with the Pyramids, has about given up hope, when he finds the “Everest” card.
At last – "In the middle of Wil Cwac Cwac!"
“In the middle of ‘Wil Cwac Cwac’!” he shouts in jubilation.
"What if the adoption agency found out?"
Jinx and Ffion are arguing again;  “What if the adoption agency found out?   We can’t compromise the process!” rages Jinx.   Ffion wonders why helping a girl in need should do that.
He accuses Ffion of being unprofessional
“You’re unprofessional and we can’t afford to break any rules!” he continues, “I want it to work, and I thought you felt the same!”   He storms off to the Deri;
"Going to sulk, more like!"
“To sulk,” comments Ffion.
Rather a tense meal
The meal at Y Felin is not a very relaxed affair;  when Wiliam comments that it must be a strain for Siôn, running a business and a chapel, Siôn is immediately on the defensive.   Wiliam reveals that he used to go to Sunday School, “Like a good boy, but then I realised it was all a fairy tale.   Religion does more harm than good, and is responsible for most wars.”
Siôn gets on his 'anti-establishment' hobby-horse
Siôn replies that extreme fundamentalist religion does this, “But so does corrupt government!”
"The establishment again!"
Iolo comments, “The establishment again!”   When Siôn claims that religion holds the village together,
"We've had Sunday's sermon already!"
Britt remarks, “We’ve had Sunday’s sermon already.”
Wiliam informs them that he became a police officer because there is so much evil, and he wanted to do something practical to change that.
Jinx and Dai talk about old comics
In the Deri, Jinx is getting graphical ideas from the Tiger cartoons, and tells Dai how he misses all the comics of his youth, that his mother threw out as they were only collecting dust.   Dai suddenly gets up and leaves, heading straight for Megan’s shop.
Dai wants his cards back . . .
He gets there as Megan is about to close, and demands that he have his cards back.   Jim also arrives as Megan refuses to hand them back;  “Sets like that have sold for a lot of money.   Jim offers to buy them for £5, and Dai cannot understand why.
. . . Jim also wants them, and this is why . . .
Brandishing his “Everest” card, Jim show him why,
. . . but Megan is putting them on a specialist website . . .
but Megan tells them she will be putting them on a specialist website, so as to get the best possible sum for Apêl Maenan.
. . . and ushers them both out
She ushers them both out of the shop and locks the door.
Iolo and Wiliam leave Y Felin
Wiliam leaves Y Felin as he has an early shift in the morning, and thanks Britt and Siôn for a lovely evening.   “Welcome to the family!” enthuses Britt.
"He might suspect something"
As soon as the door is shut, Siôn is fretting;  “He might have heard about the cheque and suspects something.”   “He’s not Mystic Meg!” says Britt,
"People only know because you opened your mouth!"
“People only know because you opened your mouth!”
Siôn is beginning to regret that Meic sent the cheque, but Britt insists, “It’s manna from heaven – it solves the problem.   Just tell them you’re investing it until you decide.   You don’t have much choice.”

"And you welcomed him into the family!"
Siôn is becoming angry;  “One lie leads to another.   The police will notice!   And you welcomed him into the family!”

24 March 2015

Britt has been worrying about the "accident"
Britt mentions to Siôn that she has been tossing and turning all night as she is worried about something Gethin said.   “It made me think about the accident — was it an accident?”   But Siôn is opening a letter, which he discovers is from Meic, containing a cheque for £10,000, with the instructions, “To be used appropriately.”
Britt is gleeful about the cheque
Britt is excited that they will be able to start paying off the debt;  Siôn reads that Meic is leaving the café to Debbie and the house to Anita, and wants Siôn to tell them.
Simon the electrician confirms it was deliberate . . .
Simon Griffiths, an electrician, has examined Garry’s flat, and confirms that the electric shock was definitely not an accident.   As Britt comes up the stairs,
. . . and is paid by Garry to keep quiet
Garry slips Simon some money and warns him not to say a word.
"Oh, it was a manufacturing fault"
He tells Britt that it was a “manufacturing fault” on the toaster, and she tells him, “I was starting to think Gwyneth was responsible;  you haven’t been getting on lately, and she was behaving oddly when I was over there yesterday.”
Garry has his suspicions
Garry ponders, “She was outside the flat when Dani went in the ambulance – no, I’m being paranoid!”
Dai and DJ are in the midst of the rubbish from the loft, allegedly sorting it.   As Diane goes out, DJ finds an album containing cards from tea packets,
"I remember those 'Wonders of the World',"
and Dai recalls that was the “Wonders of the World” series, but “Everest” was missing.   “There’s no point in keeping it, as it’s not a full set,” he concludes.
Siôn reveals the contents of Meic's letter
Siôn announces to Anita and Debbie the contents of the letter, and Anita is somewhat perturbed that the café is going to Debbie.   When Siôn tells them about the cheque, and says it is for investing in the Deri, she also thinks that rather strange.
"You've got a lot of explaining to do!"
At the news that Meic wants Darren to be his executor, Anita gets out her phone to ring Meic for an explanation, but she has to leave a message, “Ring me back – you’ve got a lot of explaining to do!”
Gemma lies in wait in the alley
Gemma hangs around in the alley, waiting for Gwyneth to come out of the café;  “Great news about Dani,” says Gemma, “She’s coming home next week.”
“No thanks to you!” replies Gwyneth.
The old "I've got nowhere to go" routine again
Then Gemma begins her sob story about how Megan has thrown her out;  “Nothing I did pleased her, and now I’ve got nowhere to go!”   Despite Gwyneth’s protestation that she is not looking for a lodger, Gemma has her mind made up,
"I want to talk to you about Dani"
and when Garry comes across wanting a word with Gwyneth, she follows them inside.
"Do you mind?   I want some privacy!"
When Garry wants to talk to Gwyneth, and pointedly asks, “Do you mind?”   Gemma replies that she does mind, and actually she lives there.
"What's your game?"
In the kitchen, Gwyneth hisses, “What’s your game?”
Gemma tells her that Britt may well have told Garry about her suspicions;
"It's all right – I'm with you"
“But it’s all right – I’m with you.”
Gemma takes her bag upstairs, and Garry complains that he should have been told that Gemma had moved in.
Garry asks questions . . .
He asks, “Why did you go to the hospital?   You hate Dani – maybe you had a guilty conscience.   I had an electrician in this morning, who said it was definitely not an accident.   Where were you around six, when it happened?”
. . . and Gemma carefully monitors the answers . . .
Gemma, who has been listening upstairs, comes back down and says that Gwyneth was with her.
"Oh, an alibi!"
“Oh, an alibi – very convenient!” is Garry’s verdict.
"I would never risk going back to jail!"
Gwyneth insists that she would not be so stupid as to risk going back to jail.   “Life without Gwern would not be worth living!”
Then he turns to Gemma;  “You hated her and made her life hell with those messages!   Gemma simply accuses him of throwing groundless accusations around, reminding him,
"You've upset half the village!"
“You’ve upset half the village at one time or another – you’re looking in the wrong place!”
"I don't think he'll give you any more trouble"
Without a further word, Garry leaves, and Gemma reassures Gwyneth, “I don’t think he’ll give you any more trouble.”
"Have you cashed that cheque yet?"
In the Deri, Britt is badgering Siôn, “Did you get a chance to cash that cheque?   It doesn’t get us out of the mess completely, but we’re halfway there!”
Then Debbie comes in, remarking that it is a strange feeling that the café is hers.   “You can buy me a drink if you like, seeing you’re so flush!” says Debbie, and Britt is enraged that Siôn has mentioned the cheque.
They are at it, hammer and tongs again
As they frequently do, they engage in another heated argument.
"It's strange, giving Siôn £10,000!"
Anita tells Diane that it is strange, giving Siôn £10,000 without saying what it is for, but Diane maintains that the Deri was always close to Meic’s heart.
“Try and see it from his perspective,” implores Diane, “He is getting things in order to give him peace of mind, knowing everything is settled and taking the pressure off you.”
"Voicemail again!"
Anita phones Meic once more;  “Voicemail again – why won’t he answer me?   He’s cut all contact with me!”   Diane suggests he is giving her time to accept his wishes, and to accept that he is not coming back.
"Do you want me sleeping on the street?"
When Gwyneth tells Gemma that she wants her to leave, there is an expected response;  “I’ve got nowhere else to go.   Do you want me sleeping on the street?   We’ll get on great – I can help look after Gwern.”
"I don't need help!"
Gwyneth protests that she does not need help, but Gemma insists, “I think you do.   What if Garry comes back to put more pressure on you?   Could you cope with that without me?   If he got a reminder of how much you hate Dani . . .
Gemma threatens her with the police
It would be easy to go to the police and point the finger at you.   I could easily have made a mistake about when I was here.
“But that doesn’t have to happen if we help each other.”   Gwyneth is forced to allow her to stay, and she hurries off to fetch the rest of her things.
Dai looks at the tea cards, before donating them to Apêl Maenan
DJ and Dai unload the car outside Megan’s shop;  “She’ll need an extension for all this lot,” says DJ.
Britt is still angry that Siôn did not keep the cheque secret.   Dai and Diane come into the Deri;  Diane is still planning the Caribbean holiday,
Another iPad with a purple case
and on the iPad shows Dai the golf course there.   As Debbie leaves, she meets Anita, and asks,
Debbie demands what Anita was expecting
“What were you hoping for?   The house and the café?” but she agrees that she would rather have Meic there than the café.
The news about the cheque is spreading
Dai remarks to Siôn, “I hear you’ve had a cash injection!   Meic must have forgiven you for buying the place, but then, he wouldn’t hold a grudge.”
Garry admires Gwern's masterpiece
Gwyneth and Gwern meet Garry coming out of the shop;  Garry admires his son’s painting,
Gwen is kept busy, cleaning the windows again
and then sees Gemma with her belongings.   “I’m not happy she’s there!” he says, and Gwyneth agrees, “You’re not the only one!”
"I have a right to know who lives with my son"
“You should have discussed it with me first – I have a right to know who lives with my son,” Garry insists.   Gwyneth responds, “No you don’t – you can’t control my life!   I’ve had enough of accusations!”

"You needed to tell him that!"
She crosses to her front door, where Gemma commends her, “Well done – you needed to tell him that!”
"You deserve some sweets from Auntie Gemma"
As Gwyneth opens the door, Gemma turns to Gwern;  “I think you deserve some sweets from Auntie Gemma.”
