Dai tries to cope alone in the shop
Dai is busy on the phone when DJ comes into APD for a couple of fence posts;
"You could have Diane back if you apologised!"
DJ comments, “You don’t do yourself any favours, sending Diane away when Jim is off!”   Dai maintains that Diane is too stubborn to come back, but DJ’s diagnosis is, “You’re as bad as each other!   Why struggle?    You could have Diane back if you just apologised.”
"One day all this might be yours"
Dai persuades him to help until Rhys gets back, reminding him, “One day all this might be yours – you are family!”
Rhys returns Courtney's coat
Meanwhile Rhys is returning Courtney’s coat and apologising for the scene in the Deri;
"It was all Mam's fault!"
she assures him that it was all her mother’s fault, and when he has to go back to APD, she seems convinced that he still fancies her.
"You must stop calling at Cysgod y Glyn!"
Ffion walks into number 7 and insists that Gethin stops calling at Cysgod y Glyn.   “I’m not stupid – your games have to stop here!”
"Wouldn't Jinx find that odd?"
“Wouldn’t Jinx find that odd, if I never came to the flat again?” he enquires, but Ffion is adamant;
"Just me and Jinx and the children!"
“You’ve got to accept that Jinx and I are going to have another child, and it’s our home, just me and Jinx and the children!”   As she leaves he warns him that it is time he sorted things out.
"This has not been washed properly!"
Sheryl brings her towels back to APD, complaining that they have not been washed properly, and she, in her pregnant state, cannot do the salon’s washing.   DJ tells her that Dai cannot cope on his own, but Dai vehemently disagrees,
Off goes DJ with his fence posts
so DJ grabs his fence posts and leaves.   Sheryl expects her towels to be ready tomorrow morning.
"No, I'm not telling you where I've been!"
Then Rhys returns, and will not tell Dai where he has been, though Dai suspects that a woman is involved, and recalls his younger days;
Dai reminisces about his young days
“All the girls loved me – full head of hair and muscular arms!”
"You left early and forgot your lunch . . ."
Sheryl takes Hywel’s lunch to him at CwmFM, remarking that he left early,
". . . because you had one of these"
and concluding that it was because he received an envelope like hers from Gaynor’s solicitor.   He appears to be concerned that Sheryl was named in the divorce petition, but Sheryl seems quite happy about it.
"Is divorce something to be celebrated?"
“Is divorce something to be celebrated?” he asks, but she replies that it is rather late to change his mind now, and that they have to look to the future.
"This is the future!"
“Those papers are the past – this is the future,” she says, patting her stomach, and reminds him that the scan is next week.
Diane insists it is great, being at home alone
Diane is in the shop, telling Eileen how she is enjoying being at home on her own;  “Listening to the radio, and reading.”   Then she asks, “Did I see Sheryl with a bag of laundry?”   When Eileen reports that it had not been washed properly, Diane gloats, “The washing and ironing is not going too well then,”
"Won't APD lose business?"
and when Eileen points out that APD may be losing business, she adds, “If they are starting to miss me – tough!   I don’t miss them at all.”
As the 4x4 leaves, Gethin makes a phone call
As DJ and Cadno drive off in the 4x4, with fence posts in the back, Gethin is making a phone call.   “I’d like a word about a couple who are trying to adopt through you.   Huw Jenkins and Ffion Llywelyn – it’s very important – I’m not sure how to say this, but feel I have to say it before it’s too late.
"Ffion and I are having an affair"
Ffion and I are having an affair – for months now.   I’d rather not give my name at the moment.”
Ffion is disturbed that Gethin is in the flat . . .
 Shortly afterwards, Ffion is surprised to find Gethin in the flat, playing with Arwen;
. . . playing with Arwen . . .
with a dog glove puppet, apparently named Smwtyn, he begins to tell the story of a princess who lives in a castle.
. . . so she says it is bedtime . . .
Ffion puts a stop to this by telling Jinx it is time Arwen went to bed,
. . . and kisses Arwen goodnight
and as soon as he takes her, Ffion demands,
"I told you not to come!"
“What are you doing here?   I told you not to come here!”
"Everything is under control," promises Gethin
Gethin explains, “You were right that I had to sort things out.   Everything is under control now.   I just want you to be happy!”
Courtney tells Elliw her troubles
Courtney has gone to visit Elliw, and tells her, “Mam doesn’t trust me!   It was so embarrassing!   She tried to spoil things between me and Rhys, but it’s obvious he still fancies me.   He gave me a lift, bought me a drink in the Deri, brought back my coat and talked to me.”
"Are you sure Rhys is interested?"
Elliw is sceptical about her claims;  “Are you sure that Rhys is interested?   Your mother talks to me, but that doesn’t mean she fancies me!”
Diane and Eileen gossip about Hywel
In the Deri, Eileen sees Hywel alone at the bar and comments to Diane, “He’s on his own, despite the shenanigans with Sheryl.”   Diane agrees that a man like that never learns his lesson, then she rather sadly admits that actually the days can be long and that she misses being in the middle of things.
"Dai doesn't want me back there"
“Dai has made it clear that he doesn’t want me back there,” she says, but Eileen tells her,
"APD is going down the pan"
“We both know that APD is going down the pan.   Get him to accept that – and apologise – and he’ll want you back.”
"Boys that age have only one thing on their mind!"
As Elliw nurses baby Gethin Llywelyn, she listens to Courtney’s fanciful ideas of what she and Rhys will do together;  “You think that’s all he will want?   Boys that age have only one thing on their mind – do you think the stork brought Lois Evans a baby?
"What if you ended up like me?"
What if you ended up like me?   He wouldn’t want to know then!   It’s hard, and at times it’s rubbish!   You’re lucky – enjoy being single;  there’s plenty of time to think about boyfriends and babies!”
"You can do this at home"
Dai presents Rhys with a pile of ironing to do at home, and expects him in at eight tomorrow morning to start on Mrs Hopkin’s wall.   Rhys has different ideas;  “I’m not coming in tomorrow, I don’t work weekends!”
Dai orders him, “You work when I tell you!”
Rhys has had enough
so Rhys takes off his APD fleece and walks out, with Dai shouting after him, “Don’t think you’re resigning!   I’m sacking you!”
"They're watching us," says Sheryl
In the Deri, Sheryl kisses Hywel, for the benfit of Diane and Eileen, who are watching.   Then she tells Hywel,
"I'm fine"
“You think I should be upset at being named on the divorce papers?   I’m fine, glad even – she’s accepted that you and I are together.”
"You should be at home, cooking my dinner"
Dai comes in and is surprised to see Diane there, rather than cooking his dinner;  he says they could eat there,
"APD doing so well?"
and Diane remarks, “APD doing so well that we can afford to eat out?”   Eileen adds, “So you’re not missing Diane doing the washing and ironing?”
Dai then announces that a new strategy has begun today;
"APD is no longer doing washing and ironing"
“APD is no longer doing washing and ironing – so we can concentrate fully on construction.”
Ffion is on the phone
Ffion is on the phone, scheduling a visit from the adoption assessor next Tuesday.   She admits to Jinx,
She has an admission to make . . .
“I’ve been keeping something from you;  I had a warning from school over helping Elliw with her project, and they must have found out about it.”
. . . and Jinx accuses her of sabotaging his pet project
Jinx, who considers the adoption the most important thing in his life, is furious.   “Thanks for being so selfish – again!   I told you to stay away from Elliw – how could you ruin the whole process?   I can’t believe you’ve done this again – you might have destroyed our dream!”
"Sometimes I think it would be easier if you were back on the bottle!"
Then he comes out with the really vicious observation, “Sometimes I think it would be easier if you were back on the bottle!   At least then you’d only be ruining your own life!”
Ffion is left stunned and disillusioned

30 April 2015

Courtney is trying to impress someone . . .
Angela is surprised to see Courtney applying makeup, and asks, “Meeting someone special?”   Courtney says she is not, just going to see Ricky,
. . . but will not tell her mother who it is
“But he’ll never be a boyfriend – he’s too young.”
Off she goes, to avoid further questioning
She wants her mother to leave her alone, and leaves.   Angela, being suspicious, also leaves the house shortly after.
"When you have a little brother or sister . . ."
Jinx, playing with Arwen, tells her, “When you have a little brother or sister, we can play together all the time.   We can go to the park with a new double buggy, and stop at Eileen’s shop for some sweets.”
"You need a gobstopper!"
Ffion, trying to work, comments, “You need a gobstopper, to give me some peace!” but Jinx warns her there will be no peace when the new baby arrives.
An inscribed slate photo frame
Then Gethin visits, bringing them a gift to congratulate them – a slate photo frame, inscribed “Teulu” (family).
"I'm sure you'll all be very happy!"
He looks Ffion in the eye as he says, “I’m sure you’ll all be very happy!”
"She's in love with Rhys!"
Ricky is at home alone when Angela calls, looking for Courtney;  he tells her that everything is far from all right between them, as she is in love with Rhys.
"She's been seeing a lot of him"
“She’s been seeing a lot of him, and even missed my birthday.”
Angela suspected something
When Angela says she thought something was going on, he tells her,
"I bet they're together in his new car!"
“I bet they’re together now, in his new car!” and looks quite satisfied that he has stirred up some trouble.
Eifion warns Rhys about Dai
Eifion is in the Deri, warning Rhys that Dai can be a bully at APD, especially now that Diane is not there to control him, and reckoning that leaving there was the best thing he has done.
"Is Courtney leaving you alone now?"
He asks, “Is Courtney leaving you alone now?”   Rhys reveals that now he has given her a lift to town and back, she thinks he is keen on her.   “I have to tell her, but don’t want to upset her.”
Courtney cannot take her eyes off Rhys
Then Courtney arrives.
"I hope what I heard isn't true!"
Angela, walking down the street, leaves a message on Courtney’s phone;  “I don’t know where you are, but you’re not with Ricky!   I hope what I heard isn’t true.”
What are the road works all about?
Then she sees Rhys’s car outside the Deri,
She sees something in the car . . .
peers into it,
. . . which she finds disturbing
and sees something which disturbs her.
Inside the Deri, Courtney insists on applying a plaster to Rhys’s cut finger, and he tells her, “By the way, your coat is in the back of the car.”
"The thing is . . ."
As he is about to break the news to her, “The thing is . . .” Angela arrives and starts, “Holding hands with him, after saying you were with Ricky?”
Alcohol detection
Then Angela sniffs Courtney’s orange juice, trying to detect alcohol.   Eifion tells her to calm down, as nothing is going on, but Rhys only gave her a lift.   Angela rages, “You didn’t tell me about it – and your clothes are in the back of his car!
"I forgot my coat – big deal!"
“I forgot my coat – big deal!” replies Courtney.   Angela’s voice grows in volume as she pontificates, “You’re too young for this – you’re not even on the pill!”
Angela publicises Courtney's private details . . .
Courtney is by now extremely upset, as all the pub customers are listening,
. . . and Rhys's denials have no effect . . .
and even Rhys’s assurance that she had a crush on him, and is just a schoolgirl, make no difference.
. . . she just keeps on with the accusations
Angela is by now into her stride;  “Where else have you been together?   Courtney is much too young for you;  she’s not old enough to ignore her mother, or to have a sexual relationship!   Home, now!”
Eifion is disappointed by her attitude . . .
Eifion tries to defuse Angela’s anger after Courtney has left, totally embarrassed, asking why she has to jump in, feet first.
. . . and Rhys says he was about to let her down gently
Rhys tells her, “If she were still here, I would have the chance to let her down gently, to tell her without hurting her,” and Eifion continues, accusingly, “But he didn’t get the chance, did he?”
Rhys is at his wits’ end;  “For the last time, there is no relationship, and all you’ve done is upset Courtney!”   He turns and orders another pint from Ows.
Gaynor wants to get back at Hywel
In the café, Gaynor tells Colin about the May Day celebration at the Deri, and how Hywel will be there, “Showing off like a dandy cockerel!”   She wants to find someone else, a celebrity.
"Leave it to me – I have contacts"
“To upstage Hywel,” says Colin, “Leave it to me – I have contacts on the showbiz circuit,”
Gaynor does not think much of the names in Colin's book
but Gaynor is not impressed with the names in his little address book.   Then he suddenly remembers someone, and dashes off to find a telephone number he has got somewhere.
Jinx is doodling
Ffion is cooking, Jinx doodles a sketch of another child on a photo of the three of them, which she regards as “childish.”
He reflects on Gethin's family, or lack of it
He comments, “It must have been difficult for Gethin to give us a present like that – his family is all over the place.   His father ran away, and he hardly ever sees his son.”
"Grow up, Jinx!"
When he puts his doctored photo into the frame, Ffion urges him, “Grow up, Jinx!”
Colin knows it is here somewhere
At number 7, Colin looks through a shoebox, trying to find a beermat,
He tells Gethin the story
bearing the phone number of Bonnie Tyler, who he met in the 80s at a gig in Swansea.
"Think she'll want to come and listen to Siôn Whites poetry?"
when he finds it, Gethin points out, “Think it through –  you want to invite her to Cwmderi, to listen to Siôn White’s poetry?   And have you got the money to pay her?”
"No, it was rather a stupid idea!"
Colin then comes to the realisation that the idea was rather far-fetched.
Back home, Angela has scarcely calmed down;  “I’m trying to look after her, and she lied about where she was!”
"You have to treat Courtney like a mature young person"
Eifion tells her that was no reason to make up stories about her in the Deri.   “You have to treat Courtney like a mature young person.   I get on well with her.”
“She can twist you round her little finger,” is Angela’s reply, and then Courtney comes downstairs.
"I'm going to Elliw's – if that's all right with you!"
“I’m going to Elliw’s house – if that’s all right with you!” she tells her mother.
Angela tries to explain;  “I had you when I was too young, and I don’t want you in the same situation.”
"Regret it, do you?"
Courtney’s response is, “Regret it, do you?” and she leaves the house.
Rhys plans the meal
Rhys arrives home and finds some ingredients in the fridge with which to cook dinner;
"Why do parents have to stick their noses in"
he asks Gaynor, “Why do parents have to stick their noses in?”   She tells him that they cannot stop worrying about their children
Gethin looks at a website
Gethin is looking at the Carmarthenshire Adopting Service website.
Colin tells him of an even better celebrity
Colin tells him that he has found a replacement for Bonnie, who will do the job for the cost of his petrol and something to eat, but will not reveal who it is.
Gethin makes a note of the phone number
Gethin returns to the website, and writes down the telephone number.
